Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I am afraid of the surgery itself, but it's the after that has been making me go "hmmm."
I know I've been second guessing only because I haven't had any real food in two weeks and that's been rough. But if you're doing this for the right reasons, then you will pull through and not chicken out!! I wish you luck!
I have lost nearly 60 pounds and people say, Oh, you dont even need to do the surgery now. Part of me asks if I could do the rest on my own, and I know the answer is NO!
I started pre ops last week and it is becomming very real now. My biggest fear?? Pain. I am getting a lap band, but I know there will still be discomfort and I will still get pumped full of gas. I have a very high pain tolerance, but I HATE stomach aches.
Yes, Ive questioned my ability to accept a whole new relationship with food. Then I remind myself about the disfunctional relationship I have had most of my life. Its time to change and get healthy.
Once your head is totally in this, you will no longer have certain doubts.
My surgery is in 9 days. Heck yeah, I'm nervous! I'm about to turn my world upside down!! Am I nervous enough not to show up on Oct.25? No way! Yes there will be pain, but it won't last forever. Yes there will be challenges, but they won't be insurmountable.
Make a pros and cons list -- it will help you clarify why you are doing this. I did and it was a big help. I also had to write my surgeon a letter telling him why I want surgery. Might be a good idea to write one to yourself.
If you're not absolutely sure this is what you need to do, don't do it until you are. Find a counselor, therapist or clergy to help you work thru things. There is no shame in saying you're not ready!
