Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.

I forgot to mention I am scheduled for bypass surgery on August 4th. Yikes. So far i'm concentrating on having a peacefull outlook and getting all my supplements and vitamins that I need.
I haven't heard of any people getting hypoglycemia just from WLS, but you will want to eat on a regular schedule as a best practice anyway.
Keep in touch and good luck in August!
I have no regrets whatsoever about having the bypass done. Yes, it is a major and permanent lifestyle change. I eat very differently now than I did prior to surgery. But the health benefits make it worth every change and every effort to maintain.
Good luck with your procedure. :)
My surgeon explained that hypoglycemia happens when people eat too many carbs and not enough protein. I had RNY in 2010, lost 175 lbs and have maintained within a 7 lb range for 4 1/2 years. I also haven't had a single problem with hypoglycemia (of GERD). I do "dump" very easily and avoid sugar, flour, rice, pasta, bread, most fruit, and even yogurt. For me, dumping feels like a mix between a hypoglycemic episode and the spins. I haven't dumped in years, but, as I said, I am very, very careful about what I eat. I stick to things like dense protein, my protein shake, and protein bars. I don't feel deprived and believe the surgery is one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have to stay away from bad carbs as much as possible, as it is, pastries are my weakness. Knowing now what I've learned form the nutrition classes on healthy meal choices with real nutritional value will give me a guideline to follow as far as making good choices. It'll just be a matter of learning what my body will and will not tolerate. I'm one month away from my surgery and I'm getting excited. :)
