Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I weigh 125 lbs. less than I did 4 1/2 years ago, and still hug the wall in the hallways when meeting someone coming the other way! It takes a lot longer for our heads to think thin than for our bodies to get there!
There's worse problems to have!
Congrats on your success!
I don't think I had the walking issue, but remember my aunt laughing at me when she saw me the summer after my surgery (I was down a little over 100 lbs). She said, "you obviously think you take up more space than you actually do. I get a kick out of watching you walk through doorways or move past people."
I did have back pain as I shrank and my muscles had to work differently. I also remember using too much force to get up from the floor and practically launching myself through space.
LCat gave some great suggestions! Zumba, yoga, and Pilates helped me "get to know" my new body and learn to move it somewhat more gracefully through the world. I'm 5 years out and am still trying to improve my balance, though.
Gotta love being able to cross our legs again, right?? I'm thankful for being able to put my hands in my lap rather than have them awkwardly dangle at my sides when I sit. Oh, the little joys!!
Again, congrats!!

I'm starting a Tai Chi class tomorrow and I will also try Yoga in the weeks to come. I will check out Craniosacral therapy and see what that's all about. Wishing everyone the very best today and always.
To those of you at the beginning of your journey...HANG ON!. It's an amazing ride and you're going to have a blast along the way.
