Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
See you Dr about your medication/hormone issues and get that sorted out and talk to him/her about the struggles you are dealing with.
Start charting you intake (food, protein, cals) and output (exercise) on something like fitday.com or sparkpeople or on paper to get a B&W picture of what is going on.
Don't beat yourself up... this fight is forever so you will have times when choices may not be the best or you stumble, just start where you know you need too... plan protein forward meals, water, exercise, vitamins.

All my best,
~Michelle "Shelly"
P.S. Please don't do all liquids or some other test (that 5 day "test" is basically a internet fad diet that screws with your metabolism, and plays on our old fat girl/guy fears, ask your Dr what they think of it) We had WLS to get off that diet rollercoaster.
3 quick questions questions:
1. How's the exercise part of the equation?
2. How much water are you getting each day?
3. How much 'temptation' are you being exposed to - i.e. is it possible to turn down your exposure a bit?
Also, discuss with docs and see if there is are any options besides prednisone - it is know to increase appetite and cravings.
Jerry, water is good and so is exercise. I can move so much more and so much easier, now! I just need to realign the food choices. Chant withe me: "Protein first, protein first, protein first."
All of you have helped me to feel a lot better. This is why I love DS. The people here are wonderful. Thanks, again. (((hugs)))
I'm sure you know this but Prednisone is a steroid that can increase appetite. I've been on Prednisone a couple of time for my Rheumatoid Arthritis and it has always increased my appetite and I don't sleep very well. That may be one of the factors. I don't know, just a thought.
Have you discussed the prednisone issue with your bariatric team?
I hope this gets better for you. I think you have done a great job and that you reaching out for support is such a sign of strength. Everyone else had great suggestions (as always) the only thing I would add is not to let the heavy person inside you take over. I suggest this because I know for me (I call her my fat girl) she tries to take on and take over and she wants to put me on a diet or she wants to make it all to overwhelming. Becareful of her, she is not good for you! BUT I know you can do this, look how far you have come and take it each day as it comes what you ate yesterday is just that yesterday. Focus on each day or each bite. Keep up the great work.

That's why I'm wondering if your bariatric team is aware of your current difficulties and if they have been in communication with the person prescribing the prednisone?
I don't know what the medical options are but think this is an area of special concern.
Oh....IOU one (1) lecture...lol
The prednisone is what got me to 200 pounds overweight in the first place. But my doctor always says'Do you want to breathe or do you want to die?" And truthfully, it is that dire for me, sometimes. My bari team knows about it. They simply tell me to hang in there.
Sheer willpower is not easy, you are right. The amounts of prednisone I take tend to make me feel like a lunatic at times. I know I don't want to eat x, but eventually I give in. However, I am going to try some of eggface's recipes to combat this problem. I have a feeling they will help me a lot.
I truly appreciate your concern.
