I have this as well every day for months. With MS as well I sometimes loose my bowels. I wear depends for my bladder anyways but the bowel thing is humiliating. Since about 6 months after surgery the chronic diarrhea started and I am now just over a year out.
Do you use artificial sweeteners? I do and wondered if that could be the cause.

I seem to almost have the opposite going on, seemed to have the diarrhea like crazy before, even with losing control and was wondering about the MS thing for a long time to tell the truth. But I have a sensitivity to the sweeteners even though i do still use them. and they do cause diarrhea for me. I also eat certain things like peanut butter that cause diarrhea at times. Maybe you need to start on one of those diets that you eat one thing at a time to be able to tell what causes problems for you ??? Just a suggestion...

Some develop lactose intolerance post op....have you tried eliminated dairy for a week to see if there is an improvement? d

Ummmmm o.k., I drink lactose free milk, but I still do eat cheese. Yikes, I know about humilation, I have to constantly worry about going anywhere. And none of this started until after the surgery. Soooo...who knows, I just have to learn to live with it. Thanks for your input.

with me it is more gas problems now. And does NOT stay in me. Any where I go it seems if it is coming out, it just does and if I smell, I usually do, well than I am praying no one is by me... I have had rude comments.If I could only say, I can't help it. i can't hold it in ! I understand your humiliation !!!!

I get diarrhea BAD if I drink coffee/caffeine!! It's terrible!! I don't DARE drink coffee in the morning if I have to be somewhere. I'm trying to cut coffee back out of my diet. (But being a busy mom of 4, it's hard!!) lol

Gawd, FIRST thing in the morning I have to RUN to the bathroom, and I can't tell you how many times I have NOT made it! I mean BAD all over the place. So my doctor says taking Kaopectate every night wont hurt, but sometimes that doesnt even help. OMG, I HAVE to have my coffee though, cannot FUNCTION without it, haha. And Gas, lets not even talk about that, my husband has come close to murdering me hundreds of times!!!!! Thank God he has a sense of humor, as does everybody thats close to me, because man it is the worse stink in the world, I cannot believe it is coming out of me, its lethal. But I cannot help it, why is is so bad after a bypass, its so weird.

I have the opposite problem. I have to make sure I get fiber and lots of water in to keep me as regular as poasible.
Wish I could help you with this, it can't be fun to live with.

I am nearly 3 years post op and I have not been "solid" since the op. I do use artificial sweetner. I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow to make sure it is down to the bypass and not anything else. I think its just a side effect for a few unlucky people. I also "go" about 6-10 times a day which can be a right pain in the arse (literally), lol

Did they take out your gallbladder with your RNY? I was having chronic diarrhea after mine was removed, did some research and discovered I was having "bile salt dumping." My doctor had no answers for me but I found one on a thread on another forum. I started taking a tums with each meal and it solved the problem.

Hi, I have the exact same problem. I, as embarrassing and horrible as it is, have had several accidents on the job and random places, and have zero control or zero warning. I too have learned to just live with it. I personally have got to live on imodiums, and watch what i eat and drink and plan every single outing accordingly. Its so hard. I went through test, colonoscopy, stool sample testing, blood tests, etc... and nothing. I went back to my Bariatrics Surgeon, and he said it may be a rare reaction to sugars in general, and wanted me to do a food log and stay off sugars for a month.. I couldnt get past week 2 and just left it alone. :( No sugar meant, no protein shakes, no bread, pasta, fruits, and almost everything I eat.
The knew problem now is that I weigh 190 from my stable weight of 160-165. and can not lose a single pound no matter how hard I try.

I have a similar problem. I must be really careful with my first meal of the day. If eaten too quickly I get really bad upset stomach, so I’ve learnt to eat my breakfast over a longer period of time and keep it low in sugar so scrambled egg and turkey rashers with some avocado. I also find sugary treats can set me off so it tend to avoid them and find tomatoes tend to be a trigger.

Imodium is my best friend and I never go anywhere without it. I really just think this is a sensitivity in post bypass patients and have learnt to live with it.
