I'd like to know that as well! I have my first appt this Sunday (because he's so busy). I'm sure it's different depending on the doctor and the requirements. For me, we are only allowed to see one person. I haven't met anyone in my classes who has been to see him. I'm even having dreams that he told me I'm not ready for the surgery, but I've already had it, so I have to get it reversed!! I'll be glad to get that part over with!

Mine only took an hour or less. She asked me some questions like why did I want to have the sugery? Stuff like that. Had me to fill out a couple questionaires and then that was it. I did have to go back two other times cause she wanted me to eat three meals a day and two snacks and I wasn't doing that. When I finally got on her schedule of doing that she said I didn't need to come back.

Mine took about about two and half hours. I had the visit with the psychiatrist and then needed to answer a couple of questionnaires that would evaluate my personality. She asked me questions about why I wanted the surgery, what kind of attempts I have made before, my medical history, and what kind of support system I have. Its basically to make sure that you are ready for the surgery and if not get you to the place that you will be so that you will be successful. I know that a lot of people get scared about this part. I sure did and then when it was done I was happy it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Don't worry about the psych eval. Mine was between 1-2 hours, lots of questions. What they are checking is what type of learner you are. Do you follow verbal instructions or is written instruction better for you. It's also good to establish yourself with someone so that down the road if you experience some lows you'll have someone you can go to.

At my psych eval the therapist asked me if I was nervous and I told her I was only nervous that she was going to suggest that I not have the surgery. She put me at ease and said that I wasn't there for her to determine if I shoudl or shouldn't have the surgery.

Mine was so weird! She asked me questions about what a normal eating day for me is, went over what I would be allowed to eat, ect.. (like the nut. visit), then I had to answer true and false questions on a computer. This took about an hour. The questions were strange though, over and over, then same questions, and they were like: "I love my mom" true or false. If I were in ________ situation, I would do _____. True or false." "I have tried to commit suicide, true or false". They were just plain weird.

Mine was like Pam2011's It took about an hour just asked questions about me and my lifestyle. It felt like we were just chatting nothing scary. Then I filled out two questionnaires which were checking for signs of depression. I work in a retirement community/nursing home and we use some of the same tests on our residents. Everything was fine and I didn't need to go back.

I know it is different for everyone but mine was 90 minutes long. He had the questionaire that I filled out at home and mailed back into them and he asked me questions like...why do I think I'm ready? What steps have you taken to make a change (diet and exercise)? Do I have support at home? Asked me if I have been depressed all my life and why did i think I was...It actually was a lot easier than I was expecting. Just relax and take deep breaths. Some people had to take a written test, I had a small one that I took at home and mailed in with my paper work. It just guages you with comparison to others. That's all. Just be yourself and relax. I will pray for you that it goes well and quickly. debby
