Hi. I'm one week post op and I'm having a hard time with the shakes. Pre op they weren't a problem. Now as soon as I drink them I get stomach pains and feel horrible and nauseated at times. I have changed the protein 4 times also I have changed the milk. Today I tried to use the same amount of powder just cut my milk in half. Same result but at least I don't have to drink 8 oz of it.

I'm suppose to start my blended food diet today I'm just worried because I haven't been able to meet my fluid and protein goals once! I stay so very full. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Don't worry about meeting your protein needs at this point. It just is not possible. Are you taking tiny sips? Have you tried mixing with water instead of milk and thinning it down as you go? Even today when I drink my protein coffee in the morning I have to thin it down with water in the form of ice cubes halfway through. It can still take me an hour to two to drink it all. I have found since surgery that I like my drinks cold or hot. I do not like tepid. You may want to experiment with different temperatures. It can take a good hour or two at first to even get down a whole protein drink. The most important part is to take tiny sips. If this continues please call your doctor. Some people even develop sensitivities to milk postop so that might be something to consider as well

I wasn't able to get my proteins in until several weeks to a month after surgery, so don't worry. Just keep sipping away. You may want to look into the soy milk instead. Some people here became lactose intolerant post op, and soy still provides protein to mix with your protein powders. Maybe that will help. Keep on healing!

Thanks for your replies. I did end up trying the protein in water. It worked much better. Also, I found some protein drinks at GNC I was able to tolerate. So hopefully I'm on the right track.

I can relate. I had RNY on August 25, 2015. I had been drinking Premier Protein drink before and after surgery until I couldn't stand the smell or sight of it. Once on blended food my surgeon told me I could stop drinking the protein drinks. I also was told it takes awhile before one can eat as much as they suggest. Hang in there!

This is the protein shake that I use - Champion Pure Whey Plus Protein Stack Chocolate Brownie. One scoop with 4oz of water or milk. I like it better with water. It is 22 grams of protein.

I have a hard time if drinks are too cold. It can hurt me too. I do better with my drinks to me room temp.

champion pure has other flavors but I like this one. I hope this can help you.
