I highly recommend doing it that way. I bought two huge jugs of SEI Max based on recommendations and I totally and completely found it gross.
You might also want to try some of the pre-mixed ready to drink shakes, I found those easier to deal with in the beginning. costco, gnc and amazon all carry those (Premier Protein, Isopure, etc).
Tera's Whey is the one I found; it is organic and the ingredient list is half as long as most of the other protein powders. They have a plain, that you can add your own flavor to and they have some single serving packs so you can try it without a big investment. Whole foods has it and here is the website:

I got tired of same flavors, chcolate, vanilla, strawberry, so I started adding some Torani sugar free syrup to it to make my own flavors. It is great!
Hang in there and Good Luck!!
I drink it as a shake or lately I love it mixed into yogurt as a dip or on its own. I also use it to make these frozen protein drops (nice little ice cream fix) http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2012/01/frozen-protein-drops.html
Good luck!
-organic cow whey protein concentrate
-organic cocoa
-organic natural flavors
-stevia leaf extract
-IP soy lecithin
sounds like it is NOT a whey protein isolate so it has some lactose, which is a problem for some people after WLS (luckily I don't have a problem with a little bit)
Thanks again!
