I am still trying to get bills straightened out from my surgery and illness afterwards. As I went through all of the explanation of benefits I got curious and added them all up.

My insurance was billed for doctors, tests, surgery, hospitalization a whopping grand total of $964,585.19. Out of that I was personally responsible for $2,436.98.

Thank goodness I was stuck with the whole bill, I would be paying for that forever!!

Almost one million dollars????? Wow... I know my hospital bill was just over $26,000..... I can't imagine.... Thank goodness you didn't have to pay that....

I spent 27 days in the hospital, most of them in the ICU. $881,973 was the bill for the hospital stay. So far my insurance has only paid about $47,000 out. I can't imagine that the hospital won't appeal the amount that my insurance paid them. It is such a small percentage of the amount billed.

This amount includes everything from the first doctor's appointment through the surgeries (I had three), all of my pre op testing, follow up visits and home nursing care for when I got home from the hospital.

I stayed ONE night in the hospital after my surgery and my insurance was billed $52,000! I couldn't believe it. They didn't pay it all, of course, but I didn't add up what they did pay.
