I am in the pre-op diet phase of preparing for surgery the end of October. It has always been a slow journey down the scale for me but I really believed the weight would drop faster on the pre-op diet than it has. In 2 weeks of 4-100 calorie protein shakes and a small low-carb meal/day I've only lost a few pounds. It makes me wonder if I'll go through this surgery and still not lose weight. I'm very strict on my diet and even increased my exercise at the gym. I guess I'm just asking for reassurance!

You will be right.

maybe your body is just all over the place with metobolism so is hanging on to it, are you drinking enough, should be 3 litres a day.
let me know how the surgery goes, what are you having done, I see my surgeon on 2nd nov, hope surgery can be soon afterwards

I know of no one that has gone through WLS and followed the rules that hasn't succeeded.
Even my friends that didn't follow the rules lost weight after their surgery and had to work pretty hard to gain it back, by eating junk all day long. If you're compliant, it will work.

Thank you! Just needed to hear it. I don't know many people who have had the surgery. I've just struggled for so many years to no avail. Guess I need to work on my mind-set and assume I'm going to succeed instead of the opposite!

Some bodies try and hold on to the weight until it finally lets go after realizing your not getting the same amount of food you use to. Then BAM the weight falls off. Happened to my sister in California after surgery. Her body held on for a few weeks, she worried it wasn't going to work. Her doctor said don't worry because when your body finally gives it in will fall off. It did! Some bodies go into a conservation mode trying to conserve energy because of the lack of calories. Then your body says, well I guess I'm just not going to get the food I use to and finally stops fighting holding on to the fat.

I'm a slow loser. Doing everything by the book, but it's just slow for me. I have lost 50 pounds in 5 months. However, I look and feel great and the weight is still coming off even if it is slow. And the inches I have lost are way more impressive than the weight at this point. So, it does work!! I had doubts at first, but not now. As each day goes by I am even more happy that I went through with it.

I would like to add that I personally know 2 slow losers who have had RNY. They both lost weight after surgery. Remember the surgery is a tool - so you may again get back to being a slow loser, but in the mean time the surgery will sort of take over, and be your tool . Best of luck !
