Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I am still preop, but have done tons of research. If you google 5 day pouch test you'll find tons of info on it. My NUT says that she believes the reason it helps some people is just cause they clean up their diet and get back to basics... Nothing more special than that.
I'm 3 years out and don't eat sugar...in the early days I dumped pretty easily and I don't want to test the waters. I just assume I can't eat them anymore. Part of it may be the way I choose to think of it....whether I am sick right after eating it or I am sick from becoming obese...sugar makes me sick. That is my reality. I decided nothing I "can" eat is worth the physical and emotional pain I felt when I was super-morbidly obese. Now that I have "tasted" freedom from obesity, I will protect that freedom with every ounce of my energy.
You can do this! You didn't go through surgery and all the recovery to live life carrying around 30-70lbs of extra weight, did you? No, it is not easy. However, it is simple. Go back to the basics. 70 grams of protein a day, 1 bite of complex carbs for every 3 bits of protein. No white carbs (rice, pasta, bread, sugar, etc), No drinking with meals or 30 minutes before/after. Water, water, water!!! Take your vitamins. Move your body!! Dancing, counter push-ups, leg-lifts, squats, walking, even tensing and relaxing muscles are all great, easy exercises. If you can't run that hill, walk it!
((hugs))
You can do this! You are worth the work and effort it takes for you to live the rest of your life in a healthy, fit body!

I decided last night to do exactly that "Back to basics" I have had a divirticulis flare up, a sinus infection, and earache all at once this week so I am healing. It forced me to take a look at where I'm at health wise. I felt so good the first year, now post op 2 yrs I have gotten back into the old habits and realized it felt to good to let it all go...now.
imjj4short, I see your still as encouraging as ever, thank you too ; )
