Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
You don't have many choices:
(1) The most unreasonable - just do as your are doing and hope for the best.
(2) Call other doctors in your area to be sure none of them will take you on as a patient. Many doctors are familiar with GBS now. You never know.
(3) Make another appointment with your surgeon. Advocate and be persistent. If you are too sick to do that yourself, find a friend or relative that can do it for you. Be respectful and firm; you're just looking for fair treatment. If someone treats you with disrespect. "I am taking an active role in my future health. Can you ____ please?" Also, if something you request is denied, ask nurse or dr. to note your request in your chart and that it was denied. This will usually get them to do what you want.
Let go what is not important. You just want follow up care in a respectful way. Don't make it personal.
Start a journal of interactions: Who you spoke with, time, date, subject of conversation, specifically how you were treated, and the advice given. If you need to give negative or positive feedback, you'll know exactly what the pattern of treatment was.
Hope you feel better soon
