I know many people I have talked to who have this surgery say that the "carb creep" is what gets them in trouble, along with the night time snacking....
Can you order some protein snacks? Bariatric advantage has some wonderful ones...
Try doing something different at night... That will keep you busy... Like scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, puzzle books, etc... Maybe just sitting and watching tv is causing you to want to snack...
This sounds like a lot of head work to me... And I wish I could help there, but something that is the hardest part of this surgery...
I wish you luck... Keep talking and try to focus on your goal...
it can happen all to easily...you've caught yourself.. you've admitted it to yourself.. you're holding yourself accountable by coming forward on here (which btw I applaud !! ) ...now you just need to be pro-active with yourself...
Slip ups are inevitable... we are only human... and this is not an over night process... there are plenty of non-harmful snacks you can replace those carbs with... I'm still pre-op.. so I feel like I'm talking without doing the walk... but I'm also lecturing myself in the process trying to prepare myself for down the road...
Getting to where you are where I pray I can be someday is in no way easy.... I pray you find the strength to get back on the road we need to be walking to get to our goals....I love the saying "nothing tastes as good as Skinny feels) and maybe keep a before and after picture available to glance at when you have those carb cravings...
I wish you luck and strength to get back on the horse :) I no doubt will need your kick in the butt in a few months myself :) Maxine
I am also going to make an appointment with my NUT just to get back on track as well.
I have lost a lot of weight since I started (128-130 depending on the day LOL) so I am getting close to the weight my NUT wanted me at (under 200) I would like to get to at least 170 so I have about 50 pounds to go and I am sure that last fifty will be more difficult than the first 130!! I would like to be under 200 by my one year surgiversary in September and I think if I get myself back on track that is definitely an attainable goal.
Have you considered a counselor? Work out the head stuff...
Evenings are my worse time too... I so get it! I have been digging out some craft stuff that I have not worked on in awhile to do in the evenings. And I figure I should study more! LOL!
HANG TOUGH!! Going to your NUT is a fab idea!! Those carbs are killer! And for me, carbs beget carbs.... a cycle begins that can turn UGLY in a very short time (of course I am still preop, so ugly for me looks different, uglier, but you know what I mean!)
And come here often!
I'm totally working really hard on my head game. I think our heads are our biggest sabotour! I'm going into this with the thought that I'm changing the way I will eat for the rest of my life. ( I say that easily now) but, the more I repeat that to myself, the more it will sink in. I have actually started this new way of eating about 4 months ago when I made the decision it's time to lose the weight or die! I have lost a total of 34 lbs since February and believe me I've had my moments!
I have found that in the evening I'm bored watching TV, so all I can think about is what's there to eat. And yes Carbs are first on my list! So, now I've turned the TV off (nothing to watch now anyway) and I've gotten back into tole painting in my little room away from the kitchen and FOOD Commercials. It's working and I'm accomplishing something I want and enjoy doing.
Good Luck, I know you'll get back on track soon! Don't let the head games steer you in the wrong direction ;-)
I can do this!
we can do this! we have what it takes!
