I don't think there is a surgery nazi... I haven't gone yet, though. I think that once we make it this far.. we don't get stopped easily

At my class (in Omaha NE) it was a group who were pending surgery (some didn't have dates yet) and they just went over the proceedure in detail, explained the liquid diet and the diffent stages after surgery. they also did a tour of the hospital and explained what would happen in hospital and so on. we were not weighed (that was done with the surgeon). It wasn't anything threatening or scary!

Thats easy. Because most fat ppl don't think they are worth anything. Even if yiu think you do, you don't. The negative noise machines in our heads prevent us for thriving.

You will be accepted and you're just gonna love yourself again. I promise you that!

Fyi they say our brains talk to ourselves at a out a thousand words a minute. And they say that most of that NOISE is negative in nature. Imagine that and imagine if you could change all that negative energy into positive thoughts and energy!

The informational session basically gives you the guidelines to follow for your plan. Also, the surgeons will begin setting goals. Every program is different. My surgery team suggested beginning the pre-op died right away to get in the groove of changing your lifestyle. Basically what I leared at the informational session was the level of commitment I would need, which was 100 %. If you have doubts about the surgery, inform yourself to make a good, committed decision. There is no turning back once you're on the OR table. You need to be invested in your long-term health. Also, you are your own No. 1 advocate in this process...

I have no doubts about having the surgery. I have done mega research, I know what I'm in for and I want the new lifestyle that goes with it. I want to eat 'normal' again.

I carry my weight well but the co-morbidities are going to kill or injure me. I'm afraid of showing up and having them tell me that my (at the moment) BMI of 35 just isn't enough and i don't look *that* obese.

I've gone back on atkins (again) and got my bmi down from 40+. Should I regain some weight? sigh.....

35 bmi and co morbidities should qualify. Another little tip is miss your height by an inch when they ask you how tall you are. That'll do it! Let me know if you need more help. And don't ever forget you can add lbs with water. Heavy shoes etc.

When I went to my first appt for WLS I was just over 35 BMI. I was terrified up until I was laying on the surgery table that the surgery nazi was going to take it all away from me.
I did everything I could in the 11 months leading up to surgery to not lose any weight to put me under 35 BMI. Right or wrong, I was happy I did it.
I had surgery Nov 2nd, down 24 pounds and ready to start the rest of my life.

My class reviewed the ins and outs of having surgery, the different kinds of surgery, what to do pre-op and post-op, things to expect, things to do and not do, what vitamins to take, how to eat post-op, follow-up appointments with the surgeon. My class lasted 6 hours and we were given a binder with more in-depth information. We call it our Bariatric Bible . It didnt stop there. We were given several web site resources for additional information.

At my information session they just gave information and we left them our contact information. No one weighed me or made any drastic decisions.
