I was released today, thank God!!!! They were talking about keeping me another day. Argh. You've probably already surmised that I didn't have a 'routine' surgery last Wednesday.
When the surgeon went in, they found a hiatus hernia that had to be fixed before the main event. (other than the odd occurrence of gastric reflux, there had been no clue of the hernia's existence). I had a lovely panic attack in recovery (felt like drowning with mask on face). During the day, I was getting weaker and lethargic. They measured my blood levels and my hemoglobin was going down. I was back in surgery by 9:30 pm that night with suspected internal bleeding. I was bleeding but they have no idea why, all the surgery was checked and I had 4 transfusions of blood. The next day, I had another transfusion. So it has been a very weird experience.
The drs at Humber River Regional Hospital/MIS group and the nursing staff were all amazing. I didn't do too badly with pain (damn gas!!LOL). I walked and sipped.
Just getting out of the hospital, however, has been the BEST! I can feel the energy coming back!!
