I've recently found myself in hospital twice because I was unable to eat or drink anything. I am at home now but am basically back on the soft diet only. My surgeon said that the swelling of the throat was irritating my stomach, making it swell. And because I had the banded gastric bypass, my stomach can't expand when it swells making my pouch smaller and apparently more sensitive. This is the only complication I've had since surgery so I feel pretty lucky - if that's the right word.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this or something like this? It's been going on for near three weeks and none of the medical staff could tell me how long it would last. My pouch is super sensitive to food that I was previously fine with, I can't eat carrots or peppers or mushrooms or drink anything but water. Has anyone suddenly become much more sensitive to food? Did you go back to 'normal'?

Bouvier - the banded gastric bypass is a relatively new procedure where you have the standard bypass but then they put a band around your stomach pouch, not the same band they use in the gastric band but a band to prevent the stomach from stretching again which it can do 3-5 years after surgery. So my pouch has no give, which is why the stomach swelling is such a problem.
