Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. Two years ago, I could not lose weight, I tried everything. Diets that worked in the past, gave me no results. I was dying. I did not know that I was in a 22 year relationship that was killing me emotionally. Not until RNY surgery and then therapy to support my RNY program, did I get the surgery, and then great health. To this day, the therapy has been one of the best supports of my entire program. 6 months ago, my husband of almost 24 years walked out without a word, a note or a thank you. That was a low blow because I was a miltary wife who birthed children alone, moved 8 times in 12 years and these were cross country, and cross continent moves. Not so much as a thank you for being a good mother, wife, companion, career enhancer, lover, faithful partner. He was not supportive of my surgery. A year after surgery, and a 135 pound loss, all he could muster was, "if you get skin reduction surgery, maybe you should consider a breast enhancement surgery also" Not one comment about how proud of me he was, how much he admired my follow through on my RNY program, or a You are pretty, sexy, cute, attractive, hot, thin, whatever. He left with all his man cave stuff, the check book that I had not had any control of for over 10 years, all the office files, his 24 guns aquired in less than 4 years, his flat screen tv, massage chair, all his military I love me wall stuff, his uniforms that no longer fit, and my recipe box and recipe books. Ladies, I am college educated, a sharp tool from the shed and a very socially savvy person. He left when two other of my RNY friends and I went away for a week to celebrate our one year surgery anniversaries. Your success in this program is greatly due to support. My support came not from my husband and spouse of 23 years, it came from you all at Daily Strength, my therapist, and my RNY support group. He could not handle one more of my successes. He could not handle that at 285 lbs, at 5'3" I had confidence. He could not handle that I was a good friend and I had and have many friends. If you see any familiar signs, please do yourself a big favor and get therapy. It saved my life. I am not through the ruff parts of the divorce yet, but I will emerge stronger and more healthy than I was before. I am a survivor. If you need support, I am here for you too. Love Susan
