Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. Yesterday was the first day I (finally) went back to volunteer at SASS (Sexual Assault Survivors Services)... I walked in the door and Anne, the program director met me at the door. She was just flabbergasted at the change in me since she saw me last! (I had not seen her since about 6 weeks BEFORE surgery)
She asked me to turn around... and then hauled me off to the conference room, closed the door, and asked if it was ok for her to ask me questions. I of course am an open book about it so it was fine with me... She already knew I was having it done and was doing it to regain my health and mobility.
She is in her late 40's and larger than I was when I started out... She too is experiencing health and mobility issues.
I told her my A1C was normal, no longer diabetic, and no more BP meds... how I had just walked 2 miles (when before she knew it was a struggle for me to walk half block to the bus stop)...
The best complement she gave me was a comment about how I carried myself differently... That is was so obvious I was more comfortable in my own body and in less pain.
THIS is what's its all about! Comfort in my own body :) Yeah!
I think this is at least one of the reasons why people who've always been thin and healthy have such a hard time grasping what obese life... They do not know what its like to NOT have comfort in their own bodies day in and day out...

Each day is like an uphill battle. I'm just grateful for the gift of water-showers, pools, hot tubs, etc that make life a little easier!
To think that you used a cane before and don't now is Wonderful!!
