Hi all,

I hurt my left bicep during this morning's workout and now I can't raise my left arm. I'm not home right now, so I asked if anyone in our group had some Tylenol. My friend handed me two pink capsules, which I immediately swallowed. Only then did she say that she didn't have Tylenol so she gave me Advil instead. I was immediately angry with myself for not double checking first.

Please rremind me why we're not supposed to take NSAID's and what will happen. I'm terrified!

I had RNY I have taken all of it, just next time be aware...don't stress out!

also since surgery I have been put on IBU 800 a lot of times have never had side effects to it. I do avoid it though most the time bc doc who did my RNY told me to.

I took it a few times bc it was all that was available. It didn't hurt me. I don't think one accidental dose will do anything. I'm a year out so idk if that makes a difference.

I think the main concern about taking NSAIDS is the chance of developing an ulcer. However, that's only if you take them often and longterm. I don't think you need to be worried about one dose...but don't do it again! Hope your arm feels better soon. Overdoing exercise can bite back!

NSAIDs are absorbed by irritation tissue until it bleeds, then the drug is absorbed by the blood stream. Because you swallow directly into your intestine, this is not a good thing. This one instance may not do lasting damage, but please be attentive to any discomfort you feel on your lower left side. That's where what is in the pouch empties into the intestine. Also, be sure that you are taking an acid reducer ever day.

If you have concerns tomorrow, give your surgeon's office a call. :)

NSAIDS are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Brand names are Advil, Aleve, etc. Aspirin is also one. There are others, I'm sure. Even more that a prescription is needed to get. Hope this helps, Ratsack.

Thank you all so much! It was roughly 500 mg of Advil, so not a huge dose, but I freaked out. I won't be doing it again any time soon, that's for sure.

As for the arm pain? Doc told me I tore my left deltoid muscle at its insertion point near the bicep, and that's why it hurts like (insert favorite cuss word), as well as why I can't move my arm more than an inch from my body. Doc also said no piano playing or heavy lifting for a week.

I swear, someday I'm gong to write a book about all this. Who'd believe it?
