Just wondering what type everyone here has had. I have read more about mini gb and it seems to be quicker healing time. I think I might opt for that one, hopefully, if my insurance covers that type. It doesn't seem too different, but what I've seen so far it's a quicker procedure and quicker healing.

I've never actually heard of the mini GBS--is that new?? Or is it called something else? I went w/ the RNY--but it was either that or Lap Band at the hospital I had my surgery at. RNY just seemed the better choice for me. Research is your key and also knowing what you want as your end result. Each procedure promotes something different--but in the end gets us all in the same direction. Best of luck...ask us anything you want!!!

I have heard of it, but it was not an option if I wanted insurance to cover it. I did, because while I COULD pay for the procedure, should a complication arise, I'd also have to pay for those surgeries out of pocket and there is a limit to that "available cash" I'd have available. :-)

I believe, from what I've re4ad, the results are similar and less involved than GBS...similar healing.

I would be wary of anything "new" for WLS. It takes at least 5 years of results before the benefits and risks of any procedure are known with any certainty. RNY remains the gold standard. If you have RNY as a lap procedure, healing is very easy - I was going like gangbusters less than 2 weeks out. I who;eheartedly agree with Flmom - do your research carefully.

The "mini" has been around for a LONG time. It has never been accepted by insurance companies because the Dr. (Dr. Rutledge) wouldn't allow other Dr.'s to perform (or learn to perform) the surgery. Personally I thought this was a poor business move.

I had the RNY in February. Truely the recovery time was not that bad. I've had 2 c-sections and in comparission this surgery was a breeze.

I've never heard of the mini gb, but from what I just googled it seems to be the old standard using a loop instead of the Y formation. Do lots of research and talk with your surgeon about the best options they can offer you. Good luck!

I had the RNY in March of 08 and have had no problems. I've never heard of the mini GBS. I'm glad I stuck with the tried and true, one that I know has had many, many successes. I've now lost 164 lbs. and feel great. Just don't get in a hurry and do the research like everyone says. Whatever you decide, good luck!
