I am pre op. But since I started with my nut back in May I have been on a high protein diet. It is wreeking havoc on my bm habits. I am getting constipated very easily. I take colace evey evening and that has been working pretty good most of the time. Sometimes I get backed up and I feel horrible until I can finally go. So last night I was starting to feel backed up and I decided to try milk of magnesia. It said it was gentle and non cramping. NOT!! I got terrible stomach cramps and felt sick. It did work, withing an hour I had my bm and then I continued to have diarrehea for the rest of the night. Is this normal? I think I will try miralax next time.

Does anyone else have this issue? What do you do to keep constipation under control?

I have lots of problems since surgery. I alternate between taking Miralax and drinking an all natural tea called LaxaTea. Neither one give me bad cramps but the both get the job done. I don't have a bm unless I take something.

I started taking Miralax daily, as recommended by my doctor. I'm very regular now, probably more than I was before surgery, and I've never had cramps from it. Also, it dissolves easily. I usually have it with my morning coffee or tea.

I think I will pick up Miralax and I heard about the teas, I am going to the vitamin shop this weekend so I will see if they have smooth mooves tea.

Constipation already runs in my family and I tried everything after GBS to get regular. The only thing that has worked consistently for me is a serving a Miralax in my protein shake every morning.

one thing i have learned about BMs is that everyone is very different.

MOM is the best thing for me - tastes like crap (pun intended) but it works every time.

Now Miralax is horrible for me! I took it and shook so bad my DH was going to take me to the hospital. It was horrible.

Strangely high protein diets can cause both diarrhea and constipation. Luckily it's the first for me.

I would suggest trying different OTC products to find what works for you. as a rule i take something if i haven't gone for one day - so painful if i let it go longer - mostly i only have trouble when i travel.

When constipation issues popped up in the early days I decided to try the natural way first before I resorted to laxatives or stool softeners. I eat 3 or4 pitted prunes everyday and it works for me. d

Add more veggies and fruits to your diet.

I eat an apple every day and eat a salad everyday plus other fruits and veggies.
