Hmmm...never in a million years would I have thought of a medical id bracelet. Would NSAIDS in an emergency really be that bad a thing?

My Doc said in all his years he's never had anyone wear one or had a problem because of not wearing one

I was told it was a good idea to have them because what if they want to insert a tube to be fed by? they do it blindly.. they can shove it in the pouch wrong which could then damage the walls of your small pouch.

The NSAIDS, I really don't want an ulcer to develop in my pouch either. Some people can take NSAIDS but I don't want to go against my doctors orders. They have other ways to relieve pain.

I also don't want any sugars that they sometimes use in IV's. I don't want to be dumping because I didn't want a medic ID bracelet.

I just think it is a better way. I could be on vacation and be taken to a hospital that has no idea about my WLS. I would rather spend the $30 to protect my new tool than risk it.

My wife got me one that says "Gastric Bypass" she ordered it at walmart. I don't know the price. It is a nice chain bracelet I think stainless steel. It don't turn my wrist green. Due to stiff fingers I have not removed it since Dec of 2013. Showers and everything. It's a good one. I don't know how important it is to wear one. I wore a diabetic braclet for years and now my sugar is normal. I think there are things that can't be done to you after a bypass. I don't know what exactly.

Deanna, I don't disagree on the NSAIDS over the long term, but my point was more about whether during emergency treatment, you could get enough to really cause an issue.

I want to get one too. Im not worried about one round of NSAIDS. I am more concerned about blind NG tube. Now the thought of someone ramming a tube down your pouch makes me want to go ahead an get one.(bracelet) I dont want it to look "too" medicinal, and I dont want it to be so pretty, it would be overlooked...... I wear one. I got my bracelet from laurenshope.com. They have a wide variety of styles, but I think they are kind of pricy. If you want something that you'll actually wear, however, you may want to spend a little more on it. The nice thing is that you buy one ID and it is interchangeable with a variety of bracelets. :)

Medic Alert bracelots were discussed at one of my support group meetings. I would say maybe half of the people there wore them. I don't remember what the group l leader who is employeed by my surgeon had to say on the matter. I wear one, I figure you can get pretty ones so it couldn't hurt to wear one.

I am also allergic to NSAIDs so that is another reason I wear it.
