Does anyone here have/use a medical alert ID (bracelet/necklace) for their Bariatric surgery? I was thinking it might be a good idea to have, you know...just in case of emergency. Thoughts? If you have one, what do you have on yours?

Mine has pamphlets on the reception desk for one place they can order at. next to these plastic key ring things with their 24hr emergency number and other info in case. I used to have one years ago for a med I take but it broke and I'm lazy. lol

. As with most things in bariatric every program has their preferred methods. I have read NG tubes epically if they go in blind can be dangerous due to the pouch.

Personal prefrence but I was advised to get one. They said if I was ever in a situation where I need to have a ventilator or that it was imperative the EMT's would know that I had the precedure. So I found online a really jazzy looking one so it's not so obviouis. It will give me a piece of mind and it will remind me everyday what my goal is for the rest of my life.

I wear one. My surgical group says it is a good idea. I has the procedure I had and the doctor's phone number on it. I have a pretty beaded bracelet on mine.

I use mine, especially when traveling. Mine says:

GASTRIC BYPASS
NO NG TUBE
NO NSAIDS
-my husbands info-

My WLS program says to get one but I haven't yet. I keep thinking I need to get one but haven't yet. It is a good idea if something happens and you are unable to speak, they need to know can't have NG tube, No NSAIDS and other stuff like banana bag ivs and stuff like that.

Thanks all! My office gave me a little card...but I was thinking an ID necklace or something would be better. It sure will last longer than the card they gave me. :0)

I've thought about it after reading of them on this group and others. But the ones I would want are a bit expensive and right now I'm too cheap to buy one.

I don't think a card would be very effective. From what I understand, EMT's are trained to look on the arm and then for a necklace type. Some people sell anklet ones but I've read that's not a good idea because they won't look there.

No NSAIDs
No NG (not enough room to say 'without scope')

On the other side I have meds and allergies

The wife got me one for Christmas. It came from Walmart. It's stainless steel with a chain and simply says Gastric Bypass.
I doono if I need it or not but it replaces my diabetic bracelet I no longer need!
