I've been on real food for over a week now, and made a big mistake.
Still not eating raw veggies, but eating fruit. Had some apple slices yesterday, and in attempt to avoid the tough skin, I swallowed a piece that was not well chewed!! It hurt all the way down, and I felt like I had a heavy weight sitting on my chest. I wanted so badly to drink, but I didn't. Today I feel better, but every time I eat something solid I feel a slight twinge right in the middle of my chest where it felt heavy yesterday.

I know what I did wrong and of course I won't repeat THAT mistake.
Has anyone else made this mistake? What words of wisdom can any on here share?

That is the only thing I have had go wrong since surgery. Got in a hurry or distracted and did not chew well. Food got stuck. Has happened about 4 times. Sometimes I have to get it up, others I have started walking or jumping up and down and it went on down. I know how it hurts and so sorry it happened to you. Good luck in the future!

I have not had that happen, so I can't offer any advice... I hope you don't have to endure that again... We learn from our mistakes and grow by them... Hang in there... It gets easier...

The biggest lesson I have learned is that this is a journey and we will ALL make mistakes. We do the best we can. We move on.

Thanks for the warning! Sounds So uncomfortable. I am going to have to sit at the dining room table, away from the tv, so that I can concentrate on eating slowly. I'll be dining again! We have gotten into the habit of eating in front of the tv.

I'm just over 3 months and I'm really careful about fruits and veggies still. I've eaten a piece or two of apple, but no skin. It didn't set well with me either, so haven't eaten any more since. I have been sticking with softer fruits like peaches, strawberries, blueberries, etc.

I hope you feel better soon, it's not pleasant when we screw up! But, it's usually a good lesson, at least I know it is for me...LOL

i have never had trouble with fruit....but to this day...and im 7 YEARS out from RNY...i sometimes get meats stuck...just because i eat too fast and/or dont chew well enough...its gonna happen from time to time...i have learned over the years to ...well...stick my finger down my throat and make my self hurl lol...DONT do this early on...you could tear stuff up..but later on its better than that hurt feeling going on for hours

Also with the meat stuck problem chew 3-4 papaya extract tablets. The enzymes in it will help "digest" and break it down faster.

Thanks for all your comments. It's reassuring to hear that others have made this mistake as well. I am going to postpone eating hard fruits for a couple more months, unless they are cooked. I don't have that twinge anymore and count myself lucky that it didn't last long.

I am thinking of getting a baby food mill just like the one I had with my kids it ground it like a pepper mill, but is portable. by the time I go I hope I will have accumilated everything I need.

I am just about 8 months out and I still have that getting stuck feeling... Best advice is to chew, chew and chew some more.. Just certain food you can't digest.. It's just like the surgeon said you have to treat you new pouch just like an infants. Do things in stages and follow your food plan. Peace and Blessings..
