"This medication is best taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before or two hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, you may take this medication with food. Avoid taking antacids, dairy products, tea, or coffee within two hours before or after this medication because they will decrease its effectiveness. Take with a full glass of water (8 oz. or 240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for 10 minutes after taking this medication..."
I have read this paragraph over and over, and still can't figure out when to take the pill, or with what. And the no dairy 2 hours before or after is a concern, since I get a LOT of my protein from dairy. And does that no dairy thing include protein supplements with whey protein isolate? I eat 5x per day, every three hours, so that does not leave me a four hour window to take the pill either. AND how am I supposed to take with 8oz. of water- that will take a half hour at least! I may be overthinking it all, but WOW is that confusing.
So, first thing in the morning, as soon as I am out of bed, I take my iron (mine is chewable, Bariatric Advantage, lemon-lime flavor). I also take my BP medicine which has to be done an hour before I eat. Then an hour or more later I eat breakfast, sometimes on my way to work...that's my protein shake made with water and the protein of the day. Then I can take the first calcium tablet in another hour or so. After that it's easy.
The trick is getting that iron in FIRST so you don't have all those timing hangups with everything else. Best wishes and happy iron-ing!
Lol - this stuff is hard!!
