Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I had anemia after losing a lot of blood. I remember being unable to get warm, it was awful. I hope that gets resolved for you, and quickly!
As to the low blood sugar, do you eat regularly? I keep little bags of nuts, jerky and protein bars in my purse or desk at work, and string cheese and yogurt in the fridge. If I get more than 4 or 5 hours between meals or a small snack, I can definitely notice it. That and staying hydrated, I get fuzzy headed if I don't drink enough water.
Hope this helps. Take care and keep asking for help from the medical community until you get what you need!
Thank you again for your suggestions ! Much appreciated ~
Low blood sugar, for me, happens whenever I eat the wrong proportion of protein to carbs. Bottom line, protein always has to exceed carb intake.
If you haven't been given a maintenance nutritional program, I'll share with you my program:
1200 calories, make up of 40% protein, 30% carb, 30% fats (the good kind).
I take a quality iron supplement (a product called Ultimate Iron) a couple times a week. I also take a boatload of other vitamins, including a bariatric multi vitamin. If you aren't taking supplements, I suggest that you begin to do so. It can help a lot to keep your energy up.
Good luck.
I need a bariatric supplement - what do you use ?
I can't take iron supplements anymore ~ my body is rejecting it !
I'm going to try that maint program. Thank you for the suggestion !
I also had to have iron infusions, as my ferratin was a 6. They sucked, but hopefully got me to a level I can maintain... we shall see. I'm 3 years post-op, and these are the only "complications" I have had. Talk to your bariatric clinic/doc about your issues, they are way better able to help guide you than your PCP.... which it does sound like you need a new one of.
