Hello everyone!


I just started my journey of WLS, meeting with the dietician/psych next week. I've been doing a lot of research about gastric bypass. I'm staying positive and I can't wait to change my life and become healthier and feel better. I'm 26 yo & have PCOS. I have a lot of weight to lose. My biggest fear is the actual surgery itself and complications, I just get nervous about surgery in general (being a big Grey's Anatomy fan doesn't help ;)  happy to join this group and looking forward to the next few months.

Welcome to the group Sonya. I know you will get a lot of support here. I think everyone gets nervous or scared before surgery. Let us know when you get your surgery date.

Welcome and congratulations on committing to changing your life! Staying positive will go a long way in your journey. I'm glad to hear you have been doing a lot of research. Those who do have a much easier time. If you haven't already, check out the "what newbies need to know" post. It usually stays near the top so you just need to scroll down. Yes, unfortunately complications can happen as with any surgery. Having a Center of Excellence team and following your pre op liquids diet to shrink your liver so that your surgeon can get to where he/she needs to be are key factors. I am 6 years out and never had any complications. I did my research as well so I was really prepared for what to expect which made it much easier for me to accept the process. This will change your life! Again, congratulations!

Congrats for taking the brave step to take back your life!! I had some of the same concerns about the surgery itself, but realized I could handle it when I had a cancer scare that required a hysterectomy. When I woke up after my RNY, nothing "felt" different and I worried they hadn't actually done the surgery. As Lcat said, some people to have complications and it is important to go in with your eyes open. But, the reality is that morbid obesity also has complications - - and will eventually take over our lives if we don't fight back.

Again, bravo to you for focusing on becoming the healthiest version of yourself!! I can't wait to cheer you on as you shrink!

Hi Sonyas516 I'm a newbie too! Finished all my paperwork, now just waiting for insurance approval..fun..anyway, I've been watching ALOT of you tube and learning ALOT...of what to take to the hospital...food to eat etc I also bought weight loss surgery for dummies (really great book and has some great recipes too) Don't be nervous, think of all the positive that will come out...its kind of like giving birth, the next day your like...oh hell no never again...then bam another kid LOL On a serious note, it will be tough journey but in the long run...it will all be worth it!
