Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
80% of the loss comes from what we eat and 20% is from exercise. I got to goal without joining a gym and without running/walking around the block very often. Simple things like parking farther away from the store, taking the stairs, and even shopping are also exercise. The idea is to move. Put a few of your favorite songs on and dance around the living room. Jumping jacks, push-ups, leg-lifts, squats, and lunges don't require any equipment or leaving your house. You don't have to do it all at once. You can break it up during the day. I started by doing push-ups against my kitchen counter every time I walked through my kitchen.
Are you getting in at least 70 grams of protein a day? Are you avoiding simple/white carbs (pasta, rice, sugar, bread, potatoes, etc)? Are you eating 3 bites of dense protein for every 1 bite of complex carbs (veggies or fruits)?
How much do you have left to lose?
JJ
Please get back on track with your doctor first. That's why they are there to help you through these times. Also, get with your Nut.
I wish you the best. Now make that phone call, you won't regret it.
While you are waiting to get in to see him/her chart your input (food/drink) and output (exercise) on a free online service like fitday or sparkpeople or there's a ton of apps. Bring that data with you to your Dr appt.
Sometimes when everything is in B&W we can see easily where adjustments need to be made. Protein still the most you are eating in a day, carbs and fats low, portions still in Dr rec range, drinking water, taking vits, etc.? Have those answers ready.
Exercise stuff.... dance in the house. Youtube has a ton of exercise videos too. If you live in a 2 story house you have a stair stepper machine. Purposely forget stuff upstairs LOL ;)
Think about getting into a local support group or becoming more active online in one. I am of the school that the eating & exercise is important but what's more important is our head stuff we need to work on.
Don't compare your journey with any one else's you will always be disappointed if you do. Someone will always lose faster, more, etc. This is about you and your health. Take each day and do the best YOU can.
Sending you good vibes!!
My Doc and I already kind of worked out that I would be more successful if I did work out more vigorously than I do, but he also said that what we eat plays a bigger role. He said that many people do really well with the surgery they just have to stick to the diet strictly, no deviation. He also said that this surgery works 85% with some 15% that will gain it back, he also said on average most will gain anywhere from 20-40lbs back depending on their diet. So best advice I could give you is get back on track, dont wait do it next meal and keep it going, and make sure you are getting your body moving :D
It's cold here in PA as well. I have been going to the mall to walk. I also have, in the past, used Leslie Sansone walking DVD's. They're not expensive at all.
And yes, go to that checkup.
No excuses!! Best to you.
