Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.

I read Starry's post about her fears.... I so hear her and understand... So I wrote and wrote... My mind is like a runaway train... goes in every direction... But I did want to share some things...
First I want to say I really liked what feefee said in response to Starry's post.
"FEAR is nothing but, False Evidence Appearing Real." So often that is so true... what we fear never happens... or if it does... we handle it...
To have surgery or not... for me I decided yes... We each one have to decide though when its right or if its right... or not for ourselves. Any way you go you have my prayers.
I can't promise you you won't have problems... Most of the posts I've seen on here though even folks who had severe problems are still glad they did it.
I can promise you if your path is similar to mine... you will have major problems... I went to see my heart doctor Feb 2012. We discussed all the health issues I was having... Bottom line he said.. your weight is responsible for the diabetes, the high blood pressure, the vascular degeneration, the retinal opathy, the pain in your back and other joints throughout your body, the neuropathy in your feet... well... I think that about covers it... anyway he said... I don't usually recommend that my patients have weight loss surgery... but for you I'll sign whatever needs to be signed to help you get it... because the fact is... I was basically planning my funeral...
I'm another one of those boring recovery stories... surgery Friday... went home Saturday... took my last dose of pain meds Monday at 4am... Having some issues with waste elimination... ask me what I mean... please don't... LOL not dumping... the other... but actually that is getting much better... protein a wee bit low... but my doctor and I think I may have been killing the protein by making hot chocolate with it... hey it was pretty good... sigh... thankfully the weather is warming up down here and I'm back to doing the chocolate ices....
Anyway... I'm 56... had surgery 10/19/2012. All told I've lost 93 lbs but still have 120 to go... maybe more... I've set my own sights on around 170 pounds... I'm 5'8" and not sure I'd look right any lower... who knows thoug... if i'm still doing good and feel it I may go lower...
The thing I feel the saddest about is that I am 56 and wishing I could have had this surgery years ago... Even today at 290... I know... its awful to be this big... It was worse at 387... and even worse at my top top weight of 393... I saw myself hitting the 400 mark and did manage to hold it for a bit... but seriously... without the surgery... I just don't know...
A couple of days ago Debbie and (aka Debsue) I were talking about how we even come close to feeling pretty... I mean compared to... and then I was going around here with that song from Westside Story playing in my head... "I feel pretty... I feel pretty and witty and bright... and I pity any girl who isn't me tonight..." I mean lady... geez... LOL
Yall before I close I got to share a joke... so thinking of me now... with all the hanging skin... made me think of a joke my brother told me recently...
So older lady goes over to her daughter's house... she knocks but gets no answer... takes out her key unlocks and lets herself in... Then she sees her daughter coming up the hallway stark naked... "Oh my," she says to her daughter... "what on earth are you doing..." "I'm wearing my I feel sexy outfit" she replied. "My husband loves me in this outfit."
A bit later the lady returns home... she thinks.. hmmm things could use a bit of spicing up... so... she takes off all her clothes a few minutes before her husband got home... When he came in and saw her there without a stitch on he exclaimed... "what the heck are you doing running around here without a stitch on?" "Its my sexy outfit," she told him with a smile... "what do you think?"
"Hmph!" he said, "It needs ironing"
"
Well that doesn't bother him anymore" I told my brother Johnny... "Oh? he asked... " Why not? "Nothing bothers dead men...." GRRRRRRRRRRRR
LOL I hope today finds you blessed. Hugs Elissa

I wonder about the future for those of you who are really young... Such a gift to get to live so much of your life without all the stigma attached to being fat...
