Yesterday my husband and I went on a nice friendly drive to take in more of the scenery of Wisconsin, well I decided I just had to taste the ice cream here since everyone say it was just yummy....I had one scoop of chocolate ice cream, and boy did I pay for it! thank god we was heading home when I made that decision ...because after I ate it my stomach let me know that I had just made the biggest dumbest mistake, I had cramps and some more stuff that went wrong, I had to skip dinner it was so bad... Even though I am almost 18 months post op I assumed that it would be ok , I have not had real ice cream in over 2 years now so maybe I was the stupid one for doing it. I can only say I have learned my lesson and I am not doing that anymore .....

Been there, done that. 16 months out and I tried sugar free soft frozen yoguart. Ohh, did I pay for that! I'm very careful what frozen treats (even sugar free) that I eat. I eat some kinds, but in very small amounts. Live and learn!

I'm 9 months out and ate a lettuce wrap w/beef and broccoli at a Chinese place today...I am still hurting...hope it goes away soon. I chewed really well but I think I just ate too fast. I gotta learn I can't keep up the same pace as my husband any more because I WILL PAY THE PRICE.

Yikes.. dumping is definitely NOT FUN. Hope you're feeling better now.

I'm so paranoid about sugar and dumping, even when it comes to the sugar free stuff. The sugar alcohols affect me differently depending on which one is in whatever it is I eat. They'll give you the green apple splatters within a few minutes, cramping and gurgling - no fun either!

It is eye opening for me when people share their experiences. Ice Cream is a big issue for me. I attempted to make Eggy's ice cream and got really sick after I ate it and I'm not sure why since I make my protein shakes the same way so it shouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking of making it with soymilk and trying it that way but truthfully, I'm wondering if wanting to make it again and trying it is just a manifestation of my gluttony and whether or not I should just walk away.

Go figure?

wish i had that reaction. i tried the ice cream and had no problem . i still won't have it again knowing it was no problem scares me more.

I live in Wisconsin and this past Sat. we went to WI Dells with the kids i tried a sugar free fat free ice cream. i did pretty good but since it melts so fast in the pouch its hard to tell when you are done. I did feel nauseated to the point i am not interested. Even the sf stuff seems to sweet. I thought it would be a nice treat once in a blue moon. However i can't even stand the sweet ness of the protein drinks or sf puddings. I can't stand anything sweet. Thought i would try it for shits and giggles. Sure wasn't fun. Take care Angie

I was told before surgery that some people are never able to eat sugar products again. I am so afraid of dumping that so far I haven't tried, but then I'm only 7 weeks out. I am able to eat sugar free products like popscicles and jello and I have been able to eat sugar free cool whip on the jello too. I have also put apple slices in the microwave with Splenda and cinnamon. Add a little cool whip and that is great!
