I had surgery on July 23,2007. I was 292 am now 222. But I have lost nothing the past 2 weeks. So do I still follow 1/2 cup food per meal? Cut my meat into small fingernail size pieces. Not drink 1/2 hour before and 1hour after a meal. I am exercising 45 min 5 days a week. Here is a sample of my daily meals. Breakfast 1/2 a bagel with I can't believe it's not butter spray. 2 cups of coffee with splenda, and sugarfree hazelnut creamer. Lunch small tv dinner about 200 calories. decafinated tea and sf lemonaide through out the day. Dinner tonight I had 2 bread sticks from Pizza Hut as I was not at home. Decaff coffee. When I cook at home I usually have meat, veggie, and potato, my servings are usually about 2 tablespoons of eachAm I eating to much. Help I had surgery to lose weight. Am I eating wrong? Please let me know. I did have A tiny piece of my husbands Birthday Cake, about a 2 inch cube, and 1/4 cup of low fat frozen yogurt. Please someone respond. I can't be done losing weight through the surgery, is my honeymoon over?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My dietician stressed protein loading first of your 1/2 of food. 3 ounces protein rich food (meat - chicken, tofu etc)then a tablespoon or two of vegis. The protein is the key ingredient to fat burning. You have to limit carbs while you are trying to loose weight. In order to use protein as energy it metabolizes fat at a cellular level. If you are carb loading first (ie bagel instead of an egg white omelet or some other type of high protein food)than you are not making your body burn fat thus loosing weight. It is the exact same premis that the south beach diet and atkins diet operates on. The surgery is a tool for not feeling hungry so you can stick to the perscribed eating as long as needed. Try reading up on this so you can understand how your body works and utilize the tools that are available to help support weight loss.
Did you get sample menus from your dietition or doctor? If not, there are several on the internet if you google "bariatric surgery" and "sample menu". Also try "gastric bypass" and "sample menu".
Of course, there are lots of opinions out there on the net - I tend to believe those that come from hospitals (like UC San Francisco, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic), but that's just me.
Perhaps choosing what looks like a good menu plan and trying it for 3-4 days would give you an idea of how it affects your weight loss.
Good luck - and keep us posted!
