Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
My dietician stressed protein loading first of your 1/2 of food. 3 ounces protein rich food (meat - chicken, tofu etc)then a tablespoon or two of vegis. The protein is the key ingredient to fat burning. You have to limit carbs while you are trying to loose weight. In order to use protein as energy it metabolizes fat at a cellular level. If you are carb loading first (ie bagel instead of an egg white omelet or some other type of high protein food)than you are not making your body burn fat thus loosing weight. It is the exact same premis that the south beach diet and atkins diet operates on. The surgery is a tool for not feeling hungry so you can stick to the perscribed eating as long as needed. Try reading up on this so you can understand how your body works and utilize the tools that are available to help support weight loss.
Did you get sample menus from your dietition or doctor? If not, there are several on the internet if you google "bariatric surgery" and "sample menu". Also try "gastric bypass" and "sample menu".
Of course, there are lots of opinions out there on the net - I tend to believe those that come from hospitals (like UC San Francisco, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic), but that's just me.
Perhaps choosing what looks like a good menu plan and trying it for 3-4 days would give you an idea of how it affects your weight loss.
Good luck - and keep us posted!
Love Ya
