Hi. This was my first Holiday meal since my surgery 2-23-10 and I did okay. Ate very little and took my time but everything stayed down. Hardest part was all the cooking , entertaining, and watching everyone grab a jellybean or chocolate egg every now and then. But I put them out for the company and was proud of myself for ignoring them.........the candy that is.......not the company !!! lol. Proud of you for doing just one bite of carrot cake.......not sure I could have stopped at one bite.

Lucky for me my aunt invited 80 people to her house for the holiday. It was mass chaos and people ate rather casually in between games of frisbee and other yard games. I didn't feel a bit out of place having a plate of small tastes of things. I picked turkey ( that was grilled, yum!) and ham and a salad I made with carrots, apple, raisins and greek yogurt, vinegar and cumin. I knew exactly what was in it and ate it comfortably. There was fruit for dessert which saved me from pining away for a slice of pie or banana cream pudding. In between I ran around with my cousins and sat and talked for hours in the sun with aunts and uncles. It was a great day and I didn't spend the ride home with my pants unbuttoned because I stuffed myself. woohooo!

I think I did OK
I made a simple Easter dinner of ham, mashed potatoes, baby carrots, greek salad, homemade bread, easter cookies, mini chocolate decorated muffins and... I scored some sugar free/fat free cheesecake pudding.
I put the pudding in a thin graham crust with half sugar cherry topping (added a bit of splenda).
It was heaven.
I had a tiny bit of everything (except for the cookies and the muffins) and it didn't bother me a bit.

This was also my first holiday post surgery, I would have done fine but I didn't take a small plate, I took a large one just because it was the one my aunt put out for everyone to use. I ate a little too much and too quickly, I was sick very shortly afterwards. Lesson learned, I do however know if I do eat too much or too quickly if I have the option to rest, then I am ok after. I usually measure or weigh the food I put on my plate, I didn't do it that day.

We had lamb chops, tri-color saute veggies, deviled eggs and I made a macaroni salad for hubby. No guests, even my daughter wasn't home, so it very quiet.

I'm proud of you mamahelen, this too is my first holiday surgery was 2-17-10 and I found it alittle depressing. Your right the hardest part was the cooking and watching those dive into all the good food and treats. But we made it and one bite of carrot cake I know for a fact I would of had more.
