Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
It didn't show up until almost 1 year after surgery, and I had to have surgery to repair it and they put a mesh in my body to hold it in place.
However, when the doctors and I started looking at the pre-bypass surgery scans and x rays, the hernia was there before my surgery and the doctors said it was held in place by all of the fat surrounding my body and after the weight loss the fat wasn't holding it in, thus it popped out.
When I first went to the doctor, he pressed the hernia bump in and out a few times and next thing I know, they're picking me up off of the floor as it caused me to pass out.
One thing to remember as we lose, is that things POP up on our body that we didn't know were there. I have a couple of veins on my calves that are visible bumps in my skin. Doctor said they've been there from my body carrying so much weight and just weren't visible from the extra weight before.
The weight loss is great, but there are things along the way that aren't so pleasant that we don't seem to get full awareness of them until post op. (skin, stretch marks, veins, hernias, etc)
The bulge has been there for a few months, never bothered me just thought it was a weird bulge that was a result of the surgery and how I healed. I had a huge open incision that was left open to heal, I had retaining sutures in place but basically my wound was wide open. It took from the end of September until early December to fully close!
My other two hernias were both at my belly button. One was fixed in July of 2011 and the other fixed at the time of my GBS in September 2012.
The good news is that you will go into the next surgery much healthier than your GBS. I had my gallbladder out this past July and it was the easiest surgery I've ever had. Being at a normal weight makes a huge difference!

I wish you well!
