Hello there. 


I dont even know how to start. I had my gastric bypass surgery 2 days ago and I just dont know if I did the right thing. Before the surgery I was so happy that I got it, I was totally ready for it but now, everything went downhill. I am 17 year old boy from Austrian( just thought i will introduce myself a little bit) .


So yeah I never cried that much as I did last 2 days. Everyone is saying that it will eventually get better after some weeks but I am not so sure about it. I am really afraid of the future because I dont know what to expect. Its just life changing thing( I dont know why i am saying this since all of you know how this works and been through it all) but I just dont see  point of everything at the moment. Itz just like my whole  childhood collapsed infront of me... yesterday when I went to toilet I collapsed and thanks god doctors were near me. I just dont know. I am realy afraid.

Welcome and congratulations on making such a life changing decision. If you scroll down the posts you will see one called "what newbies need to know". It will help! Some people experience what they call buyers remorse so you are not alone. Please post with any and all questions and we will be happy to help as much as we can considering the recent DS website changes. Yes, this is a big life change and we all have to learn to process our emotions differently than eating them. Not fun at the time, but well worth it and very empowering in the end. I will be 6 years out next month and it was one of the best choices I have made. I'm glad the doctors were near when you collapsed. It is crucial that you keep in contact with your doctor over medical concerns and do follow up. Also crucial is getting as much water in as you can, one little sip at a time. Sip, walk, rest, repeat! Work on getting as much protein shakes in as you can, one little sip at a time, because protein helps in healing. So does water. Full healing will take 4-6 weeks so be gentle with yourself. You will enjoy the benefits very soon! Be sure that take monthly photos along the way! Hang in there!

Welcome!! I'm so sorry you're feeling so stressed. Surgery is tough and can really mess with you emotions. Yes, you've made a life-changing decision. You've chosen to give your body the most powerful tool available to get to a healthy weight and stay there for a lifetime!! Yes, you are going to have some rough days (the first 4 months are the most difficult).

Sip, sip. Walk, walk. Rest. Repeat.

Hang in there!! It is totally worth it!

You know if you believe it will not get better it WON'T. You need to have a positive attitude about your situation no matter what they may be. Follow all the rules and it will be great. You are tough and will do well. Hang in there kid, you can do it.

I'm so glad you found this group. I'm almost 9 weeks post surgery and I am so grateful that people here cheered me on when I was freaking out. The first few weeks try to just focus on sip, walk, rest.
When my friends and family would ask me how I'm doing, I wouldn't know what to say. I was so scared and at the same time so hopeful that I had found something that actually worked for people just like me. People who loved food and used it to calm their emotions and fears. If they can do it, we can do it. Does the hospital you went to have a support group? That helps me to, but not as much as this group, because I can post 24 hours a day if I'm having a bad time. I promise you it will get better. It has for me.
