I work in retail so I not only have to be up on my feet but lifting heavy things and constantly moving. Knowing myself I wanted to take 4 weeks off because I was sure if I went back sooner I might do what my store manager did and not think about it and lift a big ol pile of clothes not thinking about it and pull a stitch.... Well I ended up having to be out 5 weeks because of the infection I got in my largest incesion. But now I'm the one pulling out the big 12ft ladders running up and down them with no problem... Going from only being to able 4 or 5 hours as a part time to a full time manager :-)

I took 3 weeks off. I went back to work just after Thanksgiving so I only needed just over 2 weeks vacation time because I combined it with the holiday. I could have gone back the prior week, but I hadn't had a vacation in 6 years and had a slew of time saved up to use.

I used vacation because I didn't tell anyone at work I was having surgery and I was self-pay, so even insurance didn't know I did it until it was done.

It all depends on what kind of work you do. I work in a nursing home so I have to have a full 6-8 weeks off. My surgeon says he usually gives 2-3 weeks off but since I lift, pull an push, I would need longer. If you go to soon, you run the risk of getting a hernia from all the lifting an such.

Well my plan was to do a full month out - I do Administrative work in the Registrar's Office at the college where i work and I am also the transcript coordinator which means I send out transcripts to all current and former students and outside agencies for those students who request them by mail, in person or on line so it is a very busy non-stop job and the one thing i know is that i can't return unless i am on my game because the minute you come back they expect you to be 100% and at full speed. I think I am going to stick with my first thoughts and see what happens. As I was told once, bosses don't have to care - they just want their job done and with that in mind I don't want to take any chances.

I was thinking about asking the same question:) I am hoping to only have to take a 2 week vacation and return back to work, I don't get much vacation and if I don't have the time then I have to fill out FMLA papers too and I really don't want to!

I am a little less than three weeks out. I had planned on taking a monthoff of work but I could not handle sitting home any longer so I am going back Monday . Felt great at two weeks. Could have easily gone back then.

I was out for a full 6-weeks. I did this so that if there were complications I would be able to take care of it without having to be back and forth from work. Because this was major surgery I wanted to be sure I was completely healed and well on my way before going back to work. Honestly I was glad I took that time because when I did go back I had completed my early appointments, no soreness, I was able to go back full time and felt good when I did.

3-4 weeks mainly b/c of the eating and dietary adjustment period.

Thank you for responding I will be taking a full 30 days to recoup as it appears that is the wisest things to do so I too can heal properly and make all the dietary adjustments needed before returning to work. Blessings.

I took 2 weeks off and then went back to only half days (8am to Noon) the first week. I have a desk job and had sleeve surgery.

I took two weeks off. I had the gastric bypass. I work as a court advocate/crisis counselor. I sit most of the day. It is extremely important that you eat on time and drink water throughout the day. I learned the hard way that I had to put my first for a change. You do not want to get gas or sick.
