Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
The chances of being denied are slim, or your program wouldn't have let you come this far. As to what happens if it doesn't work? - it will work. That's why it's the last thing to think of instead of the first.... It's the last-ditch effort.
The program works if you work the program. And we won't let each other fail :)
Don't give up or stress out. It will work for you!
I know what you mean by "last chance". I felt the same way. I was dying slowly from weight and diabetes. Then a month before surgery I land in the hospital with what they thought was a heart attack. I was laying there thinkin "Shoot". "If only I'd got eh surgery last year!"
It is a wonderful, life saving, life changing surgery. Don't worry you will be fine. You have so many irons in the fire right now!
I've not felt this emotional ride in a long time... Maybe like sense I was 35 and found out I was pregnant ! LOL! :)
You sound exactly like I did before my surgery. Same fears, Same hopes.
For me, I had gotten to the point where it was either give up and get a handicapped sticker and a scooter or fight for my life and have GBS.
This surgery is your best chance for getting to a healthy weight and staying there. You are not a failure because you have chosen to have the surgery. You are a fighter and a survivor. You are being brave and choosing life. The surgery doesn't "do" all the work for you, but it does give you a powerful tool to fight for your health.
My psychologist described it to me this way....When you are morbidly obese losing weight is like rolling a large boulder up a hill: you can do it, but it takes every ounce of energy and concentration and if you let up for a second, you lose ground and start all over. After WLS, you are still rolling that boulder...but now you are on level ground. If you have to rest a moment you don't end up right where you started.
You have done such a great job preparing and you have already proven to be an inspiration for other newbies. I know you are going to do great!! I can't wait to see you as the healthiest version of yourself!!
((hugs))

Each step of the way is so different for me.... And each day is so different.... I wonder when I go to bed what mood I will have in the morning.... Will I like myself?, Will I still see the old me? Will I notice the new me? And I bet you will go through a lot of this....
Don't fret the insurance companies... The docs know how to get this surgery approved... And they wouldn't have invested so much time into you if they didn't believe you were a viable candidate... My nut. is a good friend of mine... Was long before I had the surgery... And she told me they pretty much know on your first appointment with them, if you are a candidate.... This is not a surgery that is taken lightly, or done for cosmetic purposes...
I wish you good luck... And I can't wait to see you posting all the changes you are going through after your surgery.... And I will be rooting for you when you walk miles past that mailbox..... Hugzzzzz
You put it best when you said it gives you a chance because it is a tool. Only a tool. Not a miracle.
You still have to do all the work and heavy lifting so to speak.
Having fears and doubts means you are taking this seriously.
Your weight now and after surgery is within your control. Take care of yourself. Follow your team's plans for you and you will be fine. Realize you always have choices and go your best for you.
Everything will turn out how it is meant to for you.
Be Well.
