I absolutely know that RNY surgery was and is necessary to save my life and restore me back to a quality of life after my pending knee replacements, but I feel like I have become a slave to the toilet!!
I find myself watching the clock to eat and drink at designated times to get in the protein and nutrition I need. I have a shake that I mix with protein pwd and thinned out with a bit of Lactaid Milk to give me 40g of protein in the morning and evening. I take about 2 hours to drink all of it and it's getting harder to actually drink it at all. I have two small pureed meals in between and take about 30 to 45 minutes to eat those. In between I try to get enough liquid for the day but with the fluid restriction after eating that's hard to do as well.
Even with all this I can't stay out of the bathroom with diarrhea. I stopped taking the iron a week ago and that has helped a little, but the cramps and diarrhea continues even with a daily dose of anti-diarrhea meds.
Is this normal? Has anyone had these issues? Is this something that will go away over time? Will it get better when I am on real food? Five more days of pureed, and then on to soft foods. I am concerned that I won't be able to meet my nutritional needs if this continues, and I am afraid to leave the house because of this problem.

As for the diarrhea...I have heard of others having this problem. Stay in contact with your doctor regarding this. Diarrhea can dehydrate you and post RNY it's easy to become dehydrated. You need to stay well hydrated.

Also, it might be the milk.... Some folks become lactose intolerant for at least awhile post op.
Yup... I'd call my doc too, as Shelly said :)
She also said that she does not want me to take anti diarrhea meds, but my PCP said it would fine for as long as I needed to, but to make sure I got enough liquids.

My PCP keep me going until I found my current surgeon. Now everything bariatric is addressed with my surgeon and his say is the final answer.
I had a issue with one of the associates breaking confidentiality and telling me I wasn't sick I needed a therapist. now the office manager has me in the computer to see MY surgeon ONLY not any of the other providers in the practice. My surgeon is the one who's name is on the door. He also said just because the cause of something cant be seen in one test does not mean you are crazy. (then pointed out technically I am crazy and we laughed) rattle some cages get the help you need
