I just got approved for RNY Gastric Bypass on February 7, 2012 and now I'm terrified. It all happened so fast that I haven't even had time to get my mind around the idea. I went to the doctor on Jan. 30th and then received my approval letter on February 7th. Everyone that I know that has had the surgery has had at least a 6 month wait for their insurance approval. I had totally prepared myself for a several month wait.

I am waiting for my doctor's office to call me back with a surgery date but I am thinking this will happen in the next month or so. Now I'm scared. Can I do this? Please tell me your success stories so I can wrap my mind around all that is about to happen.

You absolutely can do this! Have faith in yourself! I have dreamed of having the surgery for years -- but never thought I could afford it. When the opportunity presented itself -- I had 4 wks between making the decision and actually having the surgery. Six months later I am down 104 lbs and everyday has been worth it! :)

If you are not ready then have them put you date off a month of so.

We all get scared as the time approaches. Just remember why you are doing this, to get healthy!!! We will all be here for you along the way.

I had my surgery 7/19/11 and am now down 84 pounds and I feel GREAT!

I agree with linear. Take your time and make the decision for you. Have them postpone it a month. I waited 9 months because of insurance and I was ready. Get your head right first then proceed. You can do it.

You have the power to choose when you want it! Just because they can do it sooner doesn't mean that you have to take that date. In the meantime if you haven't already, get started on your vitamins to build up your system, water to be well hydrated for a better surgery and recovery as well as getting used to drinking 64 oz a day and protein shakes. I also did a month long system cleanse to prepare my body. I used Cleanse Smart from Renew Life. Also if you aren't already working on your head stuff, get started! The head stuff is the real journey here for long term success! If you havent already jumped through all the hoops of tests and requirements, those will have to be done prior to surgery. This is a process and a lifelong journey!

Yes, you should take your time. you will need a lot of education on the diet you will have to follow for the rest of your life and prepping yourself mentally to make sure you can handle the mental aspect.

You can do it! all situations are different and it really depends on your insurance carrier and how booked the surgeon is. Hey the way I see it, the faster you get it done, the faster you get to be a loser and start your journey to a healthier lifestyle. Congrats and go with the flow. It's amazing

I think everyone gets a little nervous right before. Dont worry You can do this. But if you do have doubts just take your time.

Thanks for the support everyone. I know that I will have to complete a few classes before my surgeon will do the surgery but my insurance company has approved the procedure and they have no requirements that I have to complete before I can have the procedure.

I think I just get nervous because I had already prepared myself for a 6 month or more wait and now I don't have to wait that long. I'm going to call my surgeon on Monday and find out exactly what I need to do to get going. :)
