I had one heck of a time logging into this site. Finaly went with a new name. It's been a weird week.



Blood sugar really high


Found a new dietitian who reviewed my information and noticed I'm on extended realease medication for diabetes. She let me know extended Release is meant to sit in your stomach to release and doesn't work well in RNY people since it doesn't stay in the pouch very long.



I like her already. Switched medications and have a phone consult with her on Sunday.



Depression, grief, etc moving in. Lost my mom Oct 1st. Lost the ability to use food to fix my feelings on May 17. Lots of adjusting.



I missed you guys. Glad we are back...no matter how difficult this adjustment to the new format may be.

Hi Robyn! I'm sorry you've been having trouble with your meds. I guess not having a full-size stomach makes little things like extended-release meds a big problem. My blood sugars were out of whack because I was using very old test strips--they were four years out of date. (didn't read the labels carefully enough) Since getting brand-new ones, I've discovered my sugars now hover around 80-100 at any given time. No more meds for me as a result.

I know how it feels to not be able to use food as a coping mechanism for grief. My surgery was originally scheduled for July 1st of last year, but my mom died on June 3rd so my surgeon postponed it for three, then five, then six months to allow me time to grieve. It was awful and my heart goes out to you.

Good to see you here and yes, this adjustment will be difficult. However, since having our surgeries our entire lives have been one huge adjustment, so getting used to this site should be nothing in comparison! :-)

We had an indoor picnic at work today. I took a couple bites of a burger and my pouch screamed "stop!" Luckily it's a slow day here with so many people taking Friday off, so I laid down on my boss's couch for a little while and prayed for it to pass. I'm about 80% ok. This stuff is tricky. Trial and error and then more trail and error. I've had beef and been ok but not a burger. Live and learn.

Glad you made it on here! That's scary that someone gave you time release meds when we just can't take those now. It's interesting that your dietician caught it instead of a doctor. Yes those anniversary emotions can be challenging. I hope you can find healthy ways to process your feelings. My pouch is touchy with beef as well as how it is cooked. Also the quality of it. Hope you have a great weekend!
