Good evening! Gall bladder pain is just under your right rib cage. It can radiate all the way around to your back and lower right shoulder blade. Depending on what is going on with it, the pain can be intense. You may or may not have vomiting and or fever. Change in diet will cause any stones that have developed over the years to try to free themselves. If one get stuck in the common duct of the liver and gall bladder, you will have considerable pain.

Do see your doctor. I waited over 8 hours 5 years ago at the ER. They removed it the following day. It was laparoscopic and I was back to work in two weeks.

I would describe gall bladder pain the exact same way Spotz did. Mine was pre-gbs, but I would imagine it's about the same. I would add though that my test results came back clear for almost 6 months before they showed it was my gall bladder that was causing all my problems. I hope what you are expierencing is not gall bladder and I hope you feel better soon!

I am 34 post op and I have just been diagnosed with gallstones. They were discovered when I had an ultra sound scan for something else. My gp said to just leave them if they are not causing me any pain

I have a niece who had gbs just a month before I did (I am almost 3 weeks out) and just had to have her gallbladder removed. I have read in several old posts on here about others having to have their gallbladder out after surgery and my surgeon even warned me that might be a possibility. Of course I told him it wasn't even a chance with me as I have already had my gallbladder removed in feb. of 2011. But it is possible I would talk with your doctor about it. It's no fun dealing with it long term.

My doctor has offered to remove my gall bladder and appendix while he's inside for no extra fee. He says they can only cause problems later on, and he'd prefer I didn't need a second surgery soon after my gbs.

I would also describe gallbladder pain the way Spotz did. However, there are also other things that can cause pain and require your surgeons intervention.

Several months ago I had severe pain that I thought was gas...however it got so bad I couldn't stand up straight. My hubby took me to the ER and a CT showed my intestines were twisted and I had an intussusception (where the intestine "telescopes" in on itself). There was a lack of blood-flow to the intestines in that area that could have caused part of the intestines to die. I had emergency surgery that afternoon.

It is important to listen to your body. If something seems off, call your surgeon and make an appointment. If your pain is too great to function, go to the ER where your surgeon practices. It is important for any tests to be read by someone familiar with our altered anatomy. Otherwise it is too easily misread. For that matter, there are specific protocols for GBS patients when administering certain tests. Dont think every hospital is equipped to handle a GBS patient!! About the same time I had my issue, another GBS friend in England had similar pain. She spent 10 days in the hospital while they tried to figure out what was happening. They finally shipped her off to the hospital where shed had her GBS and they finally performed surgery. By that time part of her intestine had died from lack of blood flow and they had to remove that part of the intestine. She had to do the first 3 months of post GBS diet all over again, which has caused more issues since she was already at goal weight.

Gallbladder issues, adhesions, twisted intestine, blockages, ulcers, built up scar tissue, and intussusceptions are all potential post-op complications we need to be aware of and watch for (not neurotic about or afraid of.)

I am still thankful for my GBS and how it has freed me from super-morbid obesity. Even if I had a complication requiring surgery every year, it is totally worth my new life!

I had my gallbladder out in 2003 but had those same symptoms. Sometimes it hurt so bad that it felt like a heart attack and even have vomitted during attacks. I wish you luck with the situation and hope they can help you soon. debby
