Last night I was in the ER from 600-1130 passing a kidney stone and having pain from UTI. While I was in the ER they put me on IV pain meds that were wonderful but then they sent me home with oral meds for the issues and pain meds which are meds that I took when I went home from the hospital after surgery. I felt better when I got up this morning but have been extremely nauseous. The thing that seems to be bothering me (but is what I need the most) is the med for the UTI that turns your urine orange and numbs the pain (phenazopyridine). I have been throwing up all day but haven't eaten anything but 10 soy nuts. I haven't taken the phenazopyridine since 1230 this afternoon because I suspect that is why I'm feeling so sick, but now I'm starting to have pain again when I pee.So I really need to take it again. I Googled to see if there is a problem taking that med with GBS but haven't been able to find anything. Do any of the ladies here know about this? Have any of you taken this med and felt the same that I feel now, or felt fine on it?
I had a UTI immediately after my surgery.
I have phenazopyridine on hand at all times as I have had this problem many many times since I was a small child.
I did take it when I was waiting for the antibiotics to kick in.
I usually only take one or two tablets and then I am able to cope.
I did not have any ill effects.
I am not a doctor but from personal experience I can say this medication is quite strong and does not sit well on an empty stomach.
I have felt sick to my stomach from it sometimes in the past.
I would try to eat with this med and I would also not take it any more than absolutely necessary.
I don't believe this med would be a problem for GBS patients.
A good place to ask quickly abut meds is your Pharmacist (they know more about meds than your doctor)
The antibiotics take about 1-3 days to do there work although you must complete the course.
You should be feeling better within a few days.
I am sorry I do realize it can be extremely painful.
