I liked Pepsi before surgery. I am 5 months post and don't really miss it at all. I find a lot of things too sweet so maybe it is just me. Try something to satisfy your sweet craving but not as bad as pop is said to be. Maybe a tea with a bit of sugar in it might help satisfy the sweet tooth. :) Good luck!

I'm sorry! I use to drink Cherry Pepsi (not diet!) every day... Like a 12 pack plus a day! (Eeeek!) I gave it up cold turkey about 5 years ago. Was a tough go of it for awhile... But it finally passed.

i can understand early on..to keep from stressing things out down there...
i drink sodas all day long...im 5 years out though
and i used to drink beer..no problems for me...
im drinking a sprite zero as we speak!!

I am 2 years out and I have a diet coke or pepsi from time to time just to help burp. I think we all are told no carbonated drinks for any of the procedures especially early stages.

I was a diet pepsi freak and when I started the preop testing I gave it up and drank crystal light or another non carbonated type sugar free soft drink. Unffortunately I am not a water drinker. By the time my surgery date came I no longer craved it. Could your craving possibly be for caffiene? Try a cup of coffee once a day and see if that helps. I am not sure what the reasoning is except that carbonated beverages create a gassy environment in the stomach and that is what they want to avoid especially early on. d

I love diet soda, wish I could drink it. But I was told it stretches your pouch, the carbonation expands it. Plus soda leaches calcium from you bones right? And we can't afford to lose those nutrients.

I wish someone could tell us definitively whether or not carbonation could stretch the pouch. I have been craving a diet Dr pepper.

I think it is combo of both. The carbonation isn't good for any one who has had WLS. The caffine is the other fact. Caffine dehydrates you.
My program won't do surgery on anyone that hasn't quit diet or reg sodas or gotten off reg coffee or tea.
Rules apply after surgery too, no caffine or sodas.

I haven't had any but they told me if I needed one, to open it and place in the fridge so it will go flat, they said it has to be diet and flat.. but I am not ready to get in that habit again I was a total diet mt dew freak..

I was addicted to diet coke and probably beer too. The diet coke was really hard to stop but that addiction went away. Not sure if I would ever start again because it's not good for anyone, especially us. I do drink a cup of coffee in the morning and just make sure I drink plenty of water throughout the day. I hope this is OK.

I'm a little over 8 yrs out from RNY 11/15/04 and I was told no Carbonated drinks period.I did try a flat soda but oh not worth it man it surely was nasty.I use to drink soda like it was going out of style before my surgery,and seens surgery I dont miss it all.When I was getting ready for my surgery I heared horrow stories about ppl drinking carbonated drinks,I guess that helped scare me away from them,I only drink,sf koolaid,water,coffee,icecoffee and once in a while sf tea,,I just cant stand tea nomore after I had emercgy surgery in 2011 for adhesion that caused a blockage.I was very sick for abt 8 wks in hospital on life support and when I was allowed to drink,,all I wanted was water,lol. But I would ask your doctor what his take is on carbonated drinks period.My doctor and hby's doctor said no way period to carbonated drinks period.

I agree I have heard the horror stories as well and completely quit all caffeine and carbonated drinks I only drink water and I also use the Mio and add that to my water for flavor as my Dr approves of it as well. I do have a decaffeinated tea as well. Just too risky on the rest good luck it is so hard to break the soda addiction but you can do it. Hang in there.
