Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I have had to do a two-week pre-surgery diet and I think that will make for an easier transition to the post-op diet. Eating everything already seems a thing of the past to me!
Good luck! It help me to remember that my feelings aren't facts, just feelings. Just because I'm scared doesn't mean something is going to go wrong!

It's easy for me to say to try and not freak out.. I never really did.. I know so many people that have had the surgery and like so many others wish I had done it sooner. I also had some a couple years of research in it before hand and took the time o get all of my questions answered first.. which I recommend.
It is also not good to think of it in the way you currently are... there will be very little that you won't be able to eat again eventually..(in some cases this is not such a good thing) and you really do need to be psyching yourself up and getting mentally prepared for the changes that need to take place with your thinking... that the surgery doesn't address.
I recommend the book "The Beck Diet Solution... training your brain to think like a thin person"... it is written by the daughter of the founder of behavioral therapy.. and goes into detail about how to change the distorted thinking we currently have into more positive thinking that is helpful. It also explains the differences between being Hungry, the desire to eat, being thirsty,, and having cravings.. which really helped me. Check it out if ya get the chance.... It isn't a book on dieting.. it teaches you how to be able to follow any diet or lifestyle change.
Good Luck!
Your feelings are normal and feel re-assured as the psch will also tell you this. Its a fear of the unknown for you. Find a focus and keep reminding yourself about that focus. Mine was to go kayaking with my husband, rock wall climbing with my son and latin dancing with hubby too. He has already started swing dance lessons in preparation so I am looking forward to all of these.
Everything will be just fine and you will probably have these feelings up until they wheel you in the operating room and put you under, I know I did.
Good Luck
You are probably grieving what you think it is going to be like without your friend food. To me it wasnt as bad as I imagined, (few things are). Take it one day at a time! You are not crazy, Im sure. Be honest that you have miss used food for comfort and that you realize you need a healthy replacement for food . It is normal to have some anxiety before a major surgery, talk about that with people who can support you. (maybe not mom) You will be just fine.
It is rare to find a person that has gone through this surgery, no matter the complications, they would do it again. It is a great tool to help us do what we couldnt do on our own for all kinds of reasons. Embrace the process as much as you can. I will be praying for you. God bless, angie
As far as eating is concerned: a liquid diet for the two weeks pre-op will help to ease you into the post-op eating.
Keep the ultimate goal in mind and you will be enjoying your new life in no time at all.
Good luck.
