Does anyone have a favorite calcium chew or supplement. I have used the advantage caramels and chocolate and I tolerate them fine but they have a bitter after taste. What do you all use?

Sorry, I don't use calcium chews. I take the Kal brand Calcium Citrate 3 a day (but I take 6 a day). 2 pills, 2 hours apart between meals. I just swallow them, so no taste at all!! :)

Not sure how far out you are from surgery, but the faster you can tolerate swallowing Calcium supplements (rather than chewing them) the better off you'll be. Some of the chewables taste so much like candy it's a temptation to eat more calcium than you should. JJ is right...when you go to calcium tablet supplements, make sure you take calcium citrate. Bariatric bodies absorb and process calcium citrate better than just any old calcium supplement. If you take iron supplements, remember not to take calcium and iron at the same time. Space them out at least 2 hours apart to allow for maximum absorption.

I was using celebrate caramel. They were fine but gritty. I use Kirkland chocolate and they are great. Smooth and good, they also come in caramel. A little cheaper too. Good Luck.

I use the Bariatric Advantage strawberry chews. I take three of them daily because I am supposed to take 1,500 mg of calcium supllements and they are 500 mg apiece. They taste a lot like Starburst candies and have no bitter aftertaste. I was never a big fan of Starbursts anyway, so eating more than my allotment will not be an issue for me. Good luck!

I use Twin labs calcium citrate chew tabs. I purchase them from Puritan Pride which are inexpensive and good quality.

Thanks everyone. I am just at about 7 weeks post surgery so my NUT and Surgical teams haven't approved me just swallowing pills yet so I have to stick to the chews. (I even have to open my omeprazole capsules). The chews I have tried thus far leave such a bitter after taste but I will try some of the options you all mentioned here. I just really want to make sure I get my supplements in because I struggle with the protein and food in general even though I haven't had issues with the foods I have tried lately I just have no desire to eat and in one to two bites it is really a wrap for me. So supplements and water right now are super important for me.

I don't do calcium chews as often as I used to, but when I do I do Calcium Citrate Chewables by ...... I can't recall. I know that they have a lemon cream flavor and a chocolate. Blue box, individually wrapped. Bought them on line usually--amazon. :)

The calcium citrate tablets dissolve in water (according to my surgeon's office, you don't have to drink the white, gunky stuff at the bottom). That's what I did until I got permission to swallow pills.
