Anyone heard of this? I went in to the hospital a few days ago for my RNY and after the doctor started the laparoscopy, he found my liver was enlarged due to obesity and he took a biopsy of my liver and could not perform the procedure. None of my blood work found anything abnormal. He said I'm not a candidate for bariatric surgery so now I 'm waiting for the biopsy result and so bummed from preparing for this surgery for 9 months. Any advice? Thanks!
Almost all of us had an enlarged liver when we were obese. However, an enlarged liver obstructs the surgical field. That's why, to shrink our liver, most surgeons require a liquid diet before surgery (or at the very least we lose 10% of the excess weight). So, an enlarged liver can shrink. I wonder why your surgeon believes yours won't. What pre-op diet did the surgeon give you?
You may just need to find a different surgeon.
