Plan ahead, stock up on what the kids will need ahead of time for their FATHER to take care of them, stock up on what you will need: teas, drinks, protein shakes, soups and broths, and arrange for help with the kids.
I was able to care for myself while my husband (at the time) was away at work all day, just needing a little help with getting pants and shoes on.
You didn't say how young they are, toddlers or kindergarteners..... if the former, he needs to find day care if he's unable to be there. If the latter, you may find they will be a help.
Either way, you will need to be clear and straightforward that you will have to take care of yourself, you will NOT be able to take care of the children for a couple of weeks, and that's just the way it is.
You must focus on your healing or you won't be well enough to focus on anyone for much longer than a couple of weeks.

Use us for your support system. We are here for you. What MNMama said is right on. You have to take care of yourself first. Let your husband be responsible for his children. I made it really clear to my husband that I would be cooking healthy and that if he wanted something else he could buy it for himself. It will be 5 years next month and I still cook this way

The kids are 7 & 8. They will be coming to us with hardly any possessions. Not a good situation and the timing couldn't be worse! Not sure how long they will be with us, if longer then two weeks then we have to get them enrolled into school and everything that goes with that. It's hard for me to figure out how to focus on me with all that. I was prepared until three days ago when this all exploded!

I feel selfish saying I need to focus on me when they are kids that have no way out of there situation. I also feel this is a huge strain on our marriage of 9 months. Definitely out of the honeymoon stage. :(

Wow.. Life really knows how to throw a punch! Kids came with four changes of clothes (nothing that really goes together) one pair of shoes, no underwear, a few toys they said came out of the dumpster (not washed), and the go with the flow kid attitudes. Glad they are okay but an disgusted with their mother who didn't use child support funds for the kids but on herself. :(

Sorry the kids are in the shape they are. I hope your surgery goes well and that you recover well so that you too can be there for them. They obviously need some love in their life. As women we are able to multi task and I hope that you find a healthy balance for the changes in your life. Good Luck!
