I had my gastric sleeve on 12/16/13 and today was the first day that I could actually keep liquids down. Right after surgery I kept throwing up and my heart would be racing and just dry heaving all day. I was in the ER last night because I was dehydrated and my potassium was low. Well I woke up feeling better today and I'm actually able to hold down liquids. I was just wondering if what I was experiencing was dumping and if anyone else that had the sleeve experience it too?

For it to be dumping, you have to actually eat or drink something that causes your body to react.

Yea it would happen right after I would drink water, protein and even my medicine

I don't think it would be considered dumping. I think your pouch was just adjusting to holding anything.

No, it wasn't dumping. I don't even think it was because of your sleeve. My guess is that right after surgery, the nausea was your body's reaction to the anesthesia. Nausea post-op is very common - I had some trouble with it after my tummy tuckthey gave me anti-nausea medicine. The ongoing problem was probably because you got dehydrated any couldn't get caught up (because of your new sleeve).

With that said, I'm not a medical professional and I could totally be wrong!!

Glad you are feeling better. Keep sipping that water!! Hot, herbal tea helped calm my cranky pouch the first month or 2 post op.

I think JJ is right. Surgery can really do a number on many people and make you very sick to your stomach. Be sure to tell your doctor and find out what anesthesia you were given so you can tell people in the future. Low potassium can make your heart race too.

Sounds like you had quite a time! I'm glad you are feeling better! I could be wrong, but I don't think you can actually "dump" with the sleeve because the stomach to intestine route hasn't changed.

Thank you guys, I think you're all right because after my trip to the ER and getting hydrated and my potassium back up I woke up yesterday feeling fine. I'm able to keep my liquids down now.
