I to had an experience that I wasn't sure about.
Mine was about a week out from surgery and I had been drinking my protien shakes with no problem but I had one one morning and it started my dumping, at first I wasn't what caused it because I hadn't done anything different, but after trying milk a couple more time I realized it was the milk and my body will just not take it anymore.
Now I mix with water and sugar free flavoring.
So far this is the only thing I've dumped with and I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow.

I had the same problem with the protein shakes I was taking. Had no problems the first few weeks, but for some reason my body started rejecting them. I have no idea why this happened.

I agree dumping sucks...
It may be combination of what you ate.
Where eating two things together at one time may keep you under the "safe" amount of sugar...it could be that one of those things is on the higher end of sugars.....and if you have it with soemthing different...which is also in the higher end of sugars....you dump.
Log what you eat and keep an eye on those sugars...
Hope you dont' have to go through that often....

I have had dumping twice. The second time was on chicken that was just too dry. I only had maybe 3 little bites and I seriously thought I was going to die. I was at work to make it even worse. Needless to say whenever I have chicken now it is very, very moist.

*hugs* Hopefully you don't have to experience that again.

How long does the "dumping" last? What does it entail? Sorry you had to go through that...it sounds like it's fairly common.

Debbie, for me it lasted about 30 minutes. I was in so much pain that I really couldn't tell that it was that time frame, I was only able to tell because I called someone right after it started to find out if there was anything I could do about it. My arms and legs went completely numb and I almost felt like I was having an out of body type experience because I had to focus on other things. I also start hyperventilating which then caused my arms to seize to my chest. I was finally able to get to my bed and when I laid down and breathed a little better it started to go away. That is the worst part of the surgery. In my opinion that was more painful that right after surgery because I didn't have any drugs for the pain at the time of the dumping.

wow, thanks for that! I am going to be very careful. I am 3 weeks out and I haven't had dumping yet. Hoping I never do! I hope you are able to find out what caused it and avoid it the future. Good luck.

caruTH sorry you experienced dumping. Sometimes its not so much what you eat but when.

I'm not an envelope pusher but it has happened three times since my RNY in 2006. The worst being Thanksgiving 2006 thought I couldn't live without cornbread stuffing now know I can and will ;)

Here's how it goes for me: I get sweaty, my heart races and starts to beat out of my chest, I feel like I must lie down immediately (seems to help a bit but not much) and the end product is feeling completely wiped out and/or quick southward elimination of the offending item. It's mostly the passage of time that helps. My worst... that first Thanksgiving lasted 1 hour.
