I had the sleeve, so no dumping for me, but my friend always goes green around the gills after eating too many sweets and gets shaky, sometimes throwing up, sometimes just feeling awful.

These are typical early dumping symptoms:

Bloating

Sweating

Abdominal cramps and pain

Nausea

Facial flushing

Stomach growling or rumbling

An urge to lie down after the meal

Palpitations and rapid heartbeat

Dizziness or fainting

Eventual diarrhea

Symptoms of late dumping happen because of reactive hypoglycemia (a decrease in blood sugar level). Reactive hypoglycemia is low blood sugar caused by a large surge of insulin one to three hours before.

These are symptoms of late dumping syndrome:

Heart palpitations

Sweating

Hunger

Confusion

Fatigue

Aggression

Tremors

Fainting or loss of consciousness

What few times I dumped I first got a belly ache. Then sweat profusely and got dog sick. At that point maybe vomited but usually not. For the most part just miserable for about a half hour to an hour then it is over. Seems like after a round of dumping, I will have a spell of tremendous gas! But that too passes (no pun intended).

I have had the dumping syndrome twice and both time I got a belly ache (no throwing up though). Both times it was sugar that triggered the event, donut and ice cream. I didn't have much of each, after one or two bites I knew it was the wrong thing to do.

Mostly I had to lay down and felt a though I was going to die. Laying down and being really still for about an hour is all that made it go away. It was so bad I won't have either of those treats again.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I do not eat any sugar is because of the fear of dumping. wow it sounds awful.

I haven't dumped yet either (and hope never to!) It does sound rough!

I know last night I had a protein bar and put some low sugar strawberry preserves on the protein bar for an "added treat" will not long after that my heart start beating rapidly. I went to the computer and looked the signs and that was one of the symptoms. It said to lay down and I did and it went away. Weird did not like it and gave me a wake up call. Like a heart attack feeling really weird but lasted about 10 mins.

Dumping is the most gawd-awful feeling! Some of us learn after the first experience to avoid those pitfalls. It takes a little longer for others. A few more lessons...a few more bad experiences...and some of us NEVER learn! We keep pushing the envelope. When this happens, counseling may be in order. We all have different experiences and issues. Keep asking questions, keep working your program and keep doing whatever you need to do to stay on track. Wishing you all the best in your journey!
