I'm 5 1/2 months out and last night I drank for the first time since the surgery. I was a little worried about doing it because I have heard that the alcohol effects you differently, but I was not having as much fun as I could be having so I decided to have a Tuaca Lemon Drop Martini. That hit me instantly after just 4 sips. I ended up drink only half and my date had the rest. But then I got brave and had a Jagar Bomb shot and then ended up having another martini. I felt so wasted that I couldn't even walk. Before the surgery I was able to down 5 martinis and 5 shots before feeling the way I did last night. I did have a blast dancing with my friends and my guy. The only thing that I'm worried about is that my pouch is hurting a little bit. Just wanted to share and if you want to make comments I'd love to get them.
I'll move on again, personal decision. I'm paranoid because there is a lot of alcoholics in my family and well, I've got enough crap without fostering an addiction transfer.
BUT I know of two GBS patient who are having trouble eating yet are partying their assess off because they can drink like fishes even if it takes them awhile. This is very dangerous not just because of the chance of addiction transfer but their livers are working five x's harder. Let's face it, be kind to your liver you've only got one and trust me, you don't want to need a new one.
I've also heard that it's so easy to get trashed that people get DUI's etc. Your perception is off I guess since the alcohol is like getting a direct punch into your liver. Some people say it wears off very quickly after having a couple of sips and feeling buzzed.
I'm not saying don't... I'm just saying keep your eyes open :)

Finally, yes it can give you ulcers.. but that is not the ONLY thing you need to be concerened about.. (read what others wrote above). But remember pouches are tiny.. and ONE ulcer can cause a lot of pain.. I've had one.. and it was from consuming too much acid food and drinks like grapefruit juice (even watered down) and those little "Cutie" oranges which I now know are the devil.. hehe.
